Question about kidney cancer

Hello! My mum had a kidney tumor removed by surgery 1 year ago, and this was in Israel. Now she lives in Canada, so she does not really understand Canadian health system. Last week she had a chest CT and the report is saying that there are 7 objects (nodules) of unknown nature and could be of metastatic nature, as she had kidney tumor before. Mum's family doctor said 'she needs to think about it', but does my mum need to see an oncologist or any other specialist? What should my mum do? Is this urgent? Is there a way to figure out if these nodules in the lungs are cancer and perhaps to start treatment ASAP? Many thanks!

  • Hi Leo12345

I'm sorry to hear about Mum's recent health issues. It's obviously a really worrying time for you.

As Cancer Chat is a UK based forum I'm afraid we don't have any insight into the working of the Canadian Health system.

You mention that your Mum has a family Dr. If she is unsure about the results of her scan and needs more information or support then it would seem logical that they are her first port of call. If Mum is struggling to understand everything is there someone that she can take to the appointment with her? Or I wonder if it was possible, with your Mum's permission, for her Dr to contact you so that you can better support Mum through this.

I'm sorry that I can't be of more help at the moment.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
