Primary Peritoneal Cancer

Is there anyone else who has been diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer?

My Mom is 73 and currently waiting for biopsy results for Primary Peritoneal Cancer. She’s really unwell, has lost over 3 stone in weight over the last 2 months and is deteriorating by the day. We are worried that she won’t be strong enough to have chemo if she continues to deteriorate.

The waiting is incredibly tough.

As it’s a very rare cancer it would be good to here from anyone else who has experience of this.

  • Hi I have ppc was diagnosed 2018.

I didn’t know for sure until biopsy , and scan.

i had chemo then was given a op then chemo but tbh I think it’s rare and classed as overian as same tissue.you should ask about a doctor who deals with gynaecology .

there is much changing all the time in medicine so believe me I was thin lost all muscle mass etc but all you can do is ask questions until you are satisfied that your mum as best care possible. I send my wishes to you .

Primary peritoneal starts in the peritoneum , mine had not spread from anywhere else ,

  • Thanks so much, it’s good to here from someone who has experience of this. Are you still having treatment?

She is under the care of a consultant gynaecologist, but it’s taken 4 months to get to this stage! They have said it’s not operable but we don’t know why this is.  They have said that her kidneys, ovaries, womb & liver are clear. Just need to rule out pancreas and lungs! We are hoping to get the biopsy results this week.

  • Hi

Your mums scan showed a lot of positives

and having a Gyne consultant is good.

i did have a op but they couldn’t get to the womb and bladder areas as I have adhesions through sections.

so op took omentum and had bowel resection as cancer was on small bowel.

i ended up with pneumonia and had cardiac arrest So I’m lm thankful to be here. Mine is not cureable and I’m told I’m palliative which pisses me off but out of my control.

Everyone is different and each case of ppc is unique to the body of the person, so try not to compare especially  on the internet. I wish your mum well and good luck with next scan .

Your very brave to come on this site I think you will make sure your Mam is well looked after.

    Xx

  • Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that, it’s really hard news to have, and certainly not what you want. I do wish you all the best xx.

We are hoping to get the diagnosis for mom this week. I just hope we do, as the waiting is so very hard .

Thanks so much for sharing and your kind words. Xx

  • Hi,

My Mother in law was told today that the fluid in her belly is malignant but the CT showed no growths anywhere at all. totally clear, so they reckon it's like a thin layer on the peritoneum but specialists from London are getting involved as it is a rare form of this rare cancer. I assume clear CT is good and they need to act fast as 11 weeks she has been ill, lost 3 stone and feeling awful.

I just think it's so odd that they cannot see anything anywhere on the CT, all organs and gyny area too. However, the fluid sample showed cancer cells.

Weird. I'm hoping these are good signs

    I hope you're all doing ok x

  • Hi Westie69,

I just wondered how you were getting along after reading your post. It's been a while since you shared your experience and I wondered how you were doing. Sending love xx

  • Hi Bobbydog,

I hope things are going as well as they can with your mum, her diagnosis and treatment. I know this tvreas is a few months old now. If you are able to, please let us know how she ( and you ) are doing.

I unfortunately find myself in a similar situation with my mum and I just wanted to offer support and wondered if your experience could offer me any insight into the future, good or bad. The internet is not helpful most of the time!

I wish you and your family well xx

  • Hi johol,

how are you and your mum doing? My mum is nearly 6 years into treatment for primary peritoneal cancer. Hope you're both coping ok. X

  • Hi Johol

Sorry for the late response only just seen your message.
My mum was told he lumps on th peritoneum were bowel cancer but there was no primary tumour. The cells found are found in both the bowel and uterus so hey couldn't be certain as there was no primary tumour. So her care was sent to a different doctor and hospital. It took a further 2 weeks for her to be told that there was both they could do for her and tragically she died a month later.

As a family we are still struggling with her loss and why I've not been on this site for sometime.

i hope you are doing well xx

  • Hi Westie69

Thank you for your reply to my post. I am so sorry to hear of your mum's passing. You may not get this message, and even if you do, there is no pressure to acknowledge it.

I lost my mum a month after your reply to me, so I understand the whole concept of struggling and trying to adapt to a new future without your lovely mum.

I hope you are doing as well as you can. It's still very early days.

    best wishes, Johol xxx
