Terrified for my mum.

Terrified for my mum. She has had malignant melanoma twice. She had been now cancer free for 5 years. She went for her repeat Ct last year which was fine. She took an allergic reaction to the dye they used in it which wasn’t good. Her repeat ct she had last month she got her results on Thursday and they have said they can see something showing in the liver. This time she didn’t have the dye, she has been worrying it’s going to be cancer again. Her consultant is positive about it but can’t help but worry until further tests are done. I just wondered if not having the dye would have some effect on the scan picture.

  • Hi hollyr2018,

Congratulations on your mum being cancer free for 5 years. Of course you both would be a little worried, but it's good to hear her consultant is positive. The dye can help for a better picture, but because of her reaction they thought it was best not to use it a second time. You can read more here, which I hope will help.

    All the best,

  • Hi there.

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t posted in a while as we have had a hard few months. My mum had to go for further tests, an MRI a PET scan and then now a biopsy. They are More or less are positive that the cancer is back again. There is something showing on her scans in her liver and now also her lung. She had a lung biopsy the other day and now just waiting on results. They are unsure if they have got enough sample as the doctor doing the broncoscopy said he had never done it as deep before. If they didn’t get enough sample they are now going to be treating her for metastatic melanoma. They said tablet form, which I hope will work. I can’t believe this has happened. We are all in such a shock. I feel I’ve not let out much emotion but I woke up there from a dream thinking it wasn’t real and couldn’t stop crying as I wasn’t in a dream this is all real. I feel I had to write something as I am worried sick.
