High white blood cells. Scared and confused.

Hello all,

I am currently suffering with anxiety and depression. I had some routine bloods and have been told that my white blood cells are elevated. They are down from 2 years ago when apparently they were higher. I have to retest in 8 weeks and if not lower I will be referred to heamotology.

I am so scared as I made the huge mistake of googling high white blood cell counts.

8 weeks of feeling so scared I am not sure I can cope with.

Has anyone had this and been fine?

Thank you,

K

  • Hello Klou109,

A warm welcome to our forum.

I can imagine 8 weeks feels like a really long time especially as you are suffering from anxiety. know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Unfortunately as many here will tell you Dr Google is not at all reliable and is very good at just scaring us. We've all done it, don't worry but it often only makes us feel more anxious and worried.

I thought I would share this link with you in the meantime to help you cope while waiting for news and if you feel like your anxiety is playing up a bit too much at the moment, do mention it to your GP. You might also be interested in having a look at the Anxiety UK website

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi! I know it's been over 2 years but I'm having exactly the same situation!!! My wbc count is higher than it should be and it just has been growing over months. My next blood sample will be done in 2 months as well and I'm TERRIFIED!! I can't wait so long. :( It feels terrible living in fear the whole summer. I'm so scared that I have chronic myeloid leukemia. Please, if you're still here, reply and tell me how did it go for you?! :(
