Purple/pink rash on breast- do I hold off? -update

Hi,

I notice a a rash on my breast about 3 weeks ago on holiday. Think it has spread and it is warm/ sore to touch. I have just weaned my youngest so Dr think it is related to that, possible blocked duct and given me antibiotics today. She found no lumps. I have private medical so was going to get her to refer me straight away but don't want to over react. Scared of IBC. Was going to wait til Monday and if it hasn't cleared then get her to refer me? What do you think?

I would wait to see if the antibiotics worked, if not then ask for a referral.

I think that’s sensible. If it is an infection then usually antibiotics will start to work within 3-5 days, if the antibiotics don’t work then I would definitely ask for a referral.
I was fobbed off 4 times before I was referred so definitely keep on at your doctor if you are in any doubt.
I always try to remember that GP’s are general practitioners, they aren’t specialists, they are gatekeepers to other services. You’re well within your rights to request a referral and seek a second opinion if your doctor won’t refer you.

Just wanted to update folk in case anyone is in the same position. Saw consultant today who thought it wasn't anything to worry about, no pitting of skin etc but ordered an ultrasound to check out the red/bruised area. Radiogropher said there was nothing there, compared thickness of skin to other parts of breast and said it was all good. Said I didn't have IBC as they know it when they see it? Anyway think the redness might be connected with my recently stopping breeding or something else but not to worry.

I am delighted but still have a niggling worry. Am I just bein paranoid?
