NHS waiting times

Hi all.

Im 34 and live in London. No family history of melanoma. Dad had bcc

For last few months, maybe longer i have had a melanoytic lesion on my scrotum about 5mm. I went to the dr and saw a nurse which said just keep an eye on it to see if gets bigger.

Not too happy i went to a private dermatologist who said primary diagnosis as benign blue nevus and differential as milgnant melanoma i.e. get it checked.

I took this info to my gp and saw a nhs dermatologist in a speedy week.

They said didnt think it was a blue nevus, it could be a benign SK, a SCC or melanoma and only way to be sure is biopsy. As its on scrotal area they are statarting with a shave biopsy and if anything cancerious will do a full biopsy

The lesion looks all one colour and has no irregular melanoma features except one...a blue white veil

Can a blue white veil be on a benign nevus?

The wait is driving me crazy....last week they said my biopsy will be 18th June (earliest) then 1-4 weeks for results

Im thinking to go private - is it worth it? If so any good ones for reasonable price in London?

Thoughts?

  • Hello Alanta,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum and thank you for sharing your story. I am sorry to hear you will have to wait a while for your biopsy and then to get your results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and considered going private and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
