Endoscopy biopsy

Hi,

I had an upper GI endoscopy last week, due to stomach pains.

The scope was normal apart from a biopsy taken of what was descibed as a 'small nodular whitish area' in my eusophagous, just above my stomach.

I didn't ask if this was a hallmark for cancer at the time (still felt quite sedated), and the doctor who gave me the results didn't seem overly concerned either and thought it may just be caused by reflux. However, it is on my mind now and I would like to know:

a) if anyone has had a similar experience, if so what was the outcome?

b) how long the NHS waiting time for non-urgent biopsy results is? (this at a hospial in London)

c) Are biopsies taken purely to check for cancer?

Thank you in advance :)

  • Welcome to the forum JJ24.

Hopefully other members who have had this done will share their experiences with you soon but it may be worth getting in touch with your doctor or the hospital that carried out the biopsy to find out how long the wait for your results will be and as you can see from this discussion, this type of biopsy is used to check for many things, not just cancer.

I hope this helps but you're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to talk things over with someone. Their phone number is 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
