Worried about my son

Hey guys, losing my *** a little at the mo, very concerned for my little guy. He has many symptoms of something which doctors just don’t seem worried about, we’ve had 4 GP visits plus A&E in the last month. All his therapists (we have many as he has cerebral palsy) have also shown concern and this past week 2 of them have taken it upon themselves to call through to our GP surgery to discuss their observations which has resulted in another appointment today and us being referred on to the “hot clinic” at the children’s. But I have no idea when they will call to invite us in so I’m just left waiting and worrying by my phone.

So since his last illness (a tummy bug) well over a month ago he has had an almost continuous low grade temp (37.5ish, sometimes a little higher and sometimes a little lower), he’s had lymph nodes up the whole time, not massive but definitely swollen, in his neck, hairline and groin. He’s floppier than normal and listless, isn’t interested in the things he usually loves and to me he looks more pale than usual. I just don’t understand why they’re not worried enough to have taken bloods already. My brain is screaming at me he has leukaemia or lymphoma. It’s so hard as he’s non verbal so can’t tell me exactly what’s going on for him but he’s definitely been getting more pain than usual. I’m so worried, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things it could be other than what I’m fearing or if you think I might be right then please say. Just to mention  the doctor did a urine dip stick a week ago which showed nothing in that.

Thanks in advance :)

  • Hi Emily...

Oh my, I can see why your feeling confused at the moment ... I'm no expert, but if he stays "floppy" and stays pale , I'd deff take him to A and E ... wer always told to look for those symptoms ... it may well be o.k... but better safe then sorry ... never worry your making a fuss .. that's a mum's job ... your G P needs a kick up the bum ... esp as those therapist have been concerned enough to call your Dr...

Fingers crossed he's o.k ... but stand your ground.. gently firm ... ask them to do bloods ... good luck .. let us know how he goes ... chrissie x

  • Thanks so much Chrissie

Its so difficult, each time we’ve had an appointment we’ve been fully expecting bloods to get done or requested and they’ve just fobbed us off with the whole “it’s a virus” thing and come back in X amount of time if symptoms persist. Symptoms have persisted but he hasn’t really seemed acutely unwell enough to rush in to A&E so we’re constantly just waiting for the situation to either become more acute or for him to get better like they keep saying he will

We have a plan in place that if we notice certain things we rush his straight in, no mucking about and I’m going to try to get hold of this “hot clinic” tomorrow to see if we can be seen as quick as possible.

It’s just all so exhausting and I’m feeling like I’m not fighting for him very well as we keep not getting what we need for him. I’m usually such a strong advocate for my little man, don’t know where I’m going wrong this time. I mean even if it’s not what I’m fearing it is then we still need to know what’s going on so we can fix it.

Anyway thanks a lot for your reply xx

  • Hi Emily...

I so feel for you... it's not easy being a mum ... and they don't come with instructions ... just stick to your plan ... and go with your gut feeling ...

So hope your little man picks up  ... got everything crossed ... xx
