Breast ‘infection’ not cleared by antibiotics

Hi,

i recently went to the doctors due to breast pain and swelling of the armpit. When I was inspected by my doctor she said she found many lumps which she thinks may be fibrocysts. I have been put on a course of anti biotics for 2 weeks, however I am near the end and the swelling under my armpit has not went down, and my breast is starting to look different to the other. The darkened skin around my nipple is a different shape to my other breast. I am only 21 with no breast cancer history in the family. I am just looking for some reassurance/help as to what will happen next if I go back to the doctors this week and the antibiotics haven’t worked.

thank you :(

    Hi Lisamcc,

Have you seen your GP about this yet? If antibiotics haven't helped, it sounds as if you need to go back again.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I'm on my second week now. I'm honestly terrified x I'm still waiting on my breast clinic appointment coming in. While everyday I'm scared to look at my breast to see if something else has appeared x

  •

    Hi,

This is always a worrying wait. The appointment for the breast clinic usually comes through within 2 weeks, although it maybe a little longer with the holiday break.

Fear of the unknown plays a big part in how you are feeling. You will find that it gets easier once you know whether or not you have cancer, what grade and what type of cancer it is.

Chances are that there is a simpler explanation, so here's hoping.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi reading alot of your worrys I can say I've been there on a number of occasions..for the past 10 years I've suffered with lumps in my left breast all treated with antibiotics and fine on there own..2 years ago found another under my areola which grew very large had breast clinic was scanned etc luckerly they listened this time and had to have surgery and biopsy turns out all them years I have chronic mastitis and that time it lead to the abscess..was removed took few months to heal..now got another one 2 lots of antibiotics and its getting bigger and is under the skin completely this time my nipple has always been different to the right one so I stopped worrying about that as much..its always a worrying time u think all sorts and the stress makes you feel so much worse..always go straight to your gp if u feel its getting worse dont think twice always speak to them again..plz try not to worry it's hard but the more u do the more ur going to make urself I'll.. I hope all u ladys that are waiting for breast clinic get the results we all want..try and stay positive ok I didn't at first but I do now as long as my breast hurts I stay positive..as soon as u feel slight soreness or itching of the area contact gp start antibiotics as soon as u feel it's different the quicker its treated the better it is x

  • Hi Lisa hope you don't mind me messaging you. I've had a breast abscess since November and I've been taken 4 lots of antibiotics and had it drained. I'm back at the hospital on Thursday. I can no longer feel the lump but the outside of my breast is still red/ purple. Was yours like this ?

  • Hi yes mine has been like that so many times..sometimes painful and other times not..I had an abscess removed and now have a scar in my areola (think that's how u spell it) so now its constantly oozing out of there..keep on at the hospital make sure they really listen..I've been at it for years and now I have another app at some point as today's one was cancelled and I want another opinion or surgery..what ever u do dont give up..also I get lumps under my arm pit just before an abscess some times..

Let me know how u get on if that's ok

  • Since mines been drained I can't feel any lumps any more Just red/purple on the outside. Is this normal for an abscess. How long did yours take to go down? The doctor should have my swab results back on Thursday

  • Yeah I've had mine drained before and the swelling redness went down after 3 wks..they come back with chronic mastitis which is hard to treat apparently..

  • I just keep worrying about it

  • You will do hun..everyone says not to but when its happening to you you get scared..let's hope all goes well thursday
