Smear test results back not what I expected

I had my cervical screening letter back and it said I have an Hpv infection I have low grade dyskaryosis I am nervous I read through the leaflet they gave me it said I need a colonoscopy done but how do I know if i have high risk hpv or low risk hpv because it doesn’t state that it just says I have the infection on the letter but is not cancerous at this time I’m just really worried.

  • Hello momoftwo and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I noticed you were trying to get in touch with Monkeygirl93 so I just wanted to let you know they haven't been back on the forum since 2019.

If you don't receive a reply from them, you're welcome to reach out to others on more recent discussions about this topic or start your own.

Waiting for results is always tough but I hope this article on how to cope with the wait will help steady your nerves until they come through.

    Kind regards,

  • I know this post was a while ago but I am so happy I have come across your message. I am 31 and have also just had my first baby. I went for a smear in January. I hadn't heard anything so thought all was fine until I recieved a text today saying I needed to go for a colposcopy. I had to chase with my gp to find out why and he confirmed I have high risk HPV with low risk dyskaryosis. This news confused me so much as I hadn't had sex at all throughout my pregnancy and has scared me so much I've been in tears loads. Maybe child birth and having a weakened immune system wakes it up?
