Potential lymphoma - just worried

Hey,

Not really sure if I should even be posting here, but I actually have nobody at all to talk to and I just wanted to hear some personal experiences or any advice...

I’m a 28 year old female and in around February this year I started to get a cough (normal everyone gets coughs) however it didn’t and still hasn’t gone away, it got so bad at one point that I lost my voice on March 12 (I remember the date as it was my sons 3rd birthday lol) and ever since I have just had a constant cough, sometimes it’s so bad I struggle to breathe. Being a smoker I just put my constant cough down to that.

Fast forward to April this year (still have the cough) and my skin was itching so so badly that I was covered in bruises and blood spots under my skin, it was so bad that I actually visited the doctor (I don’t really like to go to doctors etc incase they think I’m a drama queen) and she did blood and urine tests, the bloods came back normal and urine had slight raised protein levels. She also prescribed me cream and antihistamines to help with the itching but they’re not really any use. I also have the tiny red blood spots on the roof of my mouth. Doctor referred me to a haematologist for suspected Leukemia  but as my bloods came back as normal my appointment was not until yesterday 23rd May.

between the doctor appointment and hospital appointment yesterday I have still had the persistent cough, I get occasional heartburn, I am often sick in the morning if I get up too quickly (no possibility of pregnancy) I have tiny red dots on the roof of my mouth still (have been there since at least April I didn’t check before then) my skin was itching so badly yesterday I’ve come out in more of the bleeding under my skin that doesn’t disappear under a Glass on my arm and on the back of my thigh, bruising has also come out on my thigh and on the tops of my feet by my ankles (strange not had bruises there before) I am very tired but that could just be because of the amount I’m stressing, I get night sweats that are not necessarily drenching but I am wet, my hair etc, I occasionally get a weird like numb achy feeling in my shoulder (very strange so hard to explain), I have sore areas under my jaw and what feels swollen glands under the jaw too, also the hematologist yesterday felt my lymph nodes but didn’t say anything to me, and felt my abdomen and when she applied pressure on my right side below my belly button it really hurt, still hurts now... she ordered lots of blood tests (7 vials, I actually have a picture of the names of the tests she wrote down) said that she needed to check my thyroid, and has referred me for a PET scan telling me that she doesn’t want to frighten me but it could be lymphoma , I’m just wondering why sh would straight away refer me for this scan telling me it could be lymphoma, if my blood results were not back and she didn’t comment on the lumps under my jaw, she didn’t say they felt fine but she didn’t say they weren’t fine either....

I’m just a bit worried, I do feel as though I have something very wrong, I have done since symptoms first started, I just don’t feel myself... has anyone else had these kind of symptoms or experience?

Sorry for the long long post.

Ashleigh xx

  • Hiya

Sorry for the reason you are hear and i am in the same boat at the moment.

I'm also 28!, i have a lot of itching and strange rashes, also night  sweats but drenching, also have abdominal pain but unsure if this is gastro realated as i have gastro issues which is also under a consultant. I had a haematology appoinment earlier this month as some of the markers for inflmmation/infection and one that can possibly indicate blood cancer or lymphoma was slightly raised, then had a CT scan 3/4 days after the haem appointment which got me worried. The doctor i saw wasn't too concerned but did more bloods as i also have fevers and fatigue. Also he said that he couldn't feel any lymphnodes either but at times i feel like the ones under my neck are a little swollen but not all the time. I have also had a cough for around a month or so but forgot to mention this to the person. Unless they calll me back in earlier then i go back to haematology on the 24th of june. So anxious about waiting!

The waiting is horrible, sorry if this is not helpful and that i cannot offer any advice really just posted to say that you are not alone with symptoms and waiting for tests and results.

Take care and hoping for the best for you :) xx

  • Hey,

    thankyou for replying :)

it is very scary not knowing what is going on, was sick again this morning and had an awful stinging sensation for a good hour in my stomach after, there were little bits of dark brown stuff which I’ve read could be blood but I also drank a lot of Pepsi last night so it’s probably just that!

im awaiting my pet scan letter and also have a follow up appointment with hematologist booked for 27th June.

i had bloods done on Thursday and no one called me so I’m hoping no news is good news!

sorry to hear that you’re in this situation too but it seems we’re in the same boat so let’s stay in touch xx

  • Yeah would be good to stay in touch :)

Yeah i am hoping also that no news is good news, im really anxious atm as all of the people i know who have had cancer have died :/

Yeah it could have been the pepsi but probs worth to keep an eye on it.

Hopefully out dates come fast so we know xx

  • Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that :(

although I have heard lymphoma is very curable and has a high 5 year survival rate with a lot of people going into remission after treatment, although there’s always the possibility of it coming back I know but still.

Yeah il keep an eye, im sick bright yellow stuff most mornings so il just check next time. If there’s none then at least il know it was the Pepsi.

Yeah it is definitely the not knowing and waiting for answers that makes it so much worse xx

  • Its ok :)

Yeah i have been reading a lot and am a nurse myself and the outlook seems good for lymphoma. But on the other side i have seen quite a lot of bad situations as i used to work in critical care.

Some days i can be all rational and say well if it is lymphoma or something similar then i'm young enough to fight it ect but some days i'm just overcome with the anxiety of what it would mean and possibly affecting fertility ect and it not being on my life plan.

Does your doctors know about your being sick most days? maybe ask for anti-sickness ?

    :)

  • I did tell the doctor I am sick in the mornings, but she didn’t give me anything, that was the hematologist though so maybe I should just go back to my normal doctor?

I’ve also had red dots on the roof of my mouth since April and I’ve taken a picture tonight and they’re so much worse than they were originally with red patches starting now too, forgot to mention that to the hematologist . Wondering if I should tell my doctor or just wait for my scan because there’s not really much they can I do I guess until I’ve had the scan cx

  • i would probably tell your regualar doctor about the sickness as i had to do the time the other week as i've been in nausea city but not actually being sick. I was given some anti-sickness.

You could mention the red dots to your doctor aswell but they might just say mention it to the haematologist next time you see them.

Hope your sickness gets better xx

  • Just popping by to see how your are getting on lovely?

  • Hey :)

not too great been feeling excessively tired and was sick so much last night I think I made my throat bleed.

Still haven’t received my scan date yet, although received hematologist letter tht was also sent to my gp and the reason I’ve had more bloods done and going for the scan is because of nodes she could feel under both armpits.

    Hows things with you xx

  • oh dear, have you asked about anti-sickness yet ?

Hope your symptoms settle down soon and you get your scan date soon too!!

I was at the doctors today as i have been getting constant itching all over for the last week and some chest pain and feel like my throat is swollen however no lumps. The docotor i saw didn't really look, feel or listen to anything but i got decent anti-histamines and more anti-sickness. He's sending me for more bloods also in a couple of weeks so hopefully some answers soon.

I nearly told him off for him saying 'no news is good news' haha as from what i have read on here that is not always the case. Just still anxious about all these symptoms and no answers yet.

    Sending hugs x
