Post menopausal bleeding

hi I am 51 . No period in 3 years then stared to bleed heavily . Doctor admitted me for scan . Scan showed 6mm womb lining . Ovaries fine cervix fine have been referred for hysterectomy and biopsy . I am so worried .bleeding stopped after about 4 to 5 days . Has anyone been through this I am so worried at the moment thanks

  • Hi all, been a while since I posted, my troubles started back in January, bleeding out of the blue after 16 months. I had another bleed the following month but nothing since.  I had ultrasound and hysteroscopy( v v painful made worse because of previous ablation)....the results were thickened lining, fibroid, 2 cysts. Ca125 bloods all normal. Had another ultrasound and finally had a call from consultant this week ( had been told at the hysterosvopy they couldn't see anything bad....so I wasn't stressing too much) ....back to being slightly stressed again now, one cyst has gone, the other has grown so more ca125 bloods to be done, and despite going through the menopause I am producing too much oestrogen and have active cells which to quote the consultant 'are likely to turn cancerous in the future'I am now having the Mirena coil fitted to combat the extra eostrogen and this should stop the active cells. While this has been going on, my brother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February and he lost his battle on 18th June ....I think worrying about him and seeing how quickly he died, I've stopped stressing too much about myself. I'm very grateful that I'm being monitored and they are keeping on top of things. I've put on so much weight over the last 18 months and my boobs are huge and very painful so I'm hoping the coil will rebalance my hormones and I can get back to 'normal'. Will update as and when I know anything. Keep positive all you ladies that are waiting....you are not alone xx

  • Thank you , I am very sorry for your loss,it never easy when you loose a loved one,I appreciate you posting to me when you have a lot going on yourself,I'm trying not to over think things,my ca125 test was only 12 ,I think it's the waiting,I don't know what my ultrasounds showed but the consultant looked at them on the same day,and same day offered appointment for hysteroscopy,in a week's time,I have read other posts on here and it does look like a common occurrence, with good outcomes

  • Hi all,

A year ago I began to bleed after five years period free.  I'm 59.  I was lucky in that my Dr referred me straight away and it was only days before I saw the consultant. I had a hysteroscopy and scan which showed a slight thickening and was put on provera tablets.  Dear God!  I've never felt so bad.  Heavy bleeding and eight weeks off work.  I had a follow up appt within six months and asked for the mirena coil.  Phew!  Much better.  No bleeding and a normal life.  I've had another follow up in July and last week got the all clear so ladies, chin up, they have brilliant treatments and hopefully get to the root of problems.  Take care everyone x

  • In my case first u/s and t/v scans suggested a potentially thick womb lining but without any certainty, a biopsy failed to gather enough tissue for analysis but when viewed by hysteroscopy it turned out to be a polyp and my womb was diagnosed as otherwise atrophic . Subsequent scans showed nothing likely to be causing the bleeding, hence a second hysteroscopy which showed nothing sinister either. I have been assured throughout that the hysteroscopy is the gold standard of imaging.

  • Hi I don't know how to post to this thread so I'm sorry I've had to reply to your post

    looking for some advise

ive had bleeding more like bloody discharge for a few days,  post menopausal for 5 yer no period on HRT

i have achy legs tummy pelvis back and feel sick for about 4 weeks now

I've had a tummy and internal scan last Wednesday and just had a letter for an appointment with the consultant next Wednesday, my blood tests I had done at the doctors have come back normal (not sure what they tested for as I requested them)

nothing was said at the scan so I'm not sure what's wrong if anything, but it has to be something, anyone else had this?

  • Dani, I can't help with those symptoms as mine are much more like the sensations I used to get before menstruating. I hope it all goes well for you and would really recommend that you ask questions of your consultant and anyone else you see. I've always found them to be open and honest with me and although they probably find my constant "why?" " what that's for?" "do you think it's likely?" irritating, nobody has failed to give me an answer, although in the case of the radiographers, I've found that they'll tell me what they see but make it clear that interpretation is up to the medical team. Good luck for next Wednesday x

  • Thank you, it is kind of like a long period without the bled now. It's just a worrying time not knowing what's wrong, I will ask lots of questions next week

    take care

  • I am worried,I haven't been told if or what my scans showed I had them and the same day they were reported on and same day booked for a hysteroscopy and biopsys,it's the not knowing that's worse I've gone over all different scenarios

  • Hi thank you I'm trying not to focus to much in cancers and hoping for fibroids or polyps (something less sinister) I'll update on Monday I'm hoping I can get some answers at the hysteroscopy, sounds strange but I'm counting the days xx

  • Why would I be going to see the consultant when I've only had an internal scan? It doesn't say it's a hysterectomy appointment? Its just popped into my head and now I can't sleep

is this the next step or has my scan shown up something he needs to talk to me about?
