Post menopausal bleeding

hi I am 51 . No period in 3 years then stared to bleed heavily . Doctor admitted me for scan . Scan showed 6mm womb lining . Ovaries fine cervix fine have been referred for hysterectomy and biopsy . I am so worried .bleeding stopped after about 4 to 5 days . Has anyone been through this I am so worried at the moment thanks

  • Hi Catjam.

I too was googling every spare minute of the day.  The other poster is correct in that 'any' incidence of abnormal bleeding is fast tracked as a precaution, which in most cases in not found to be anything cancer related.  It's normal to have the ultrasound examination and then see the consultant - as it's the consultant who interprets the scan images and will then decide (depending on what's found - if anything) on whether you need a hysteroscopy or not.  Try and not overly worry yourself between now and the 23rd July, and no more googling - easier said than done though I understand.  xx

  • I am googling rate at the minute will try to stop but its hard x

  • Hello ladies,

I have also had spotting ️ It started on the 18th June and lasted for 3 days, it was only real noticeable when I wiped myself. Seen my doctor on the 24th by which time it had stopped, she took a look and said she couldn't see any blood etc but would get me a fast track 2 week appointment because I had spotting in 2015 which turned out to be nothing.

I am 60 years old and have not had a period for 7 or 8 years. Anyway a week later on the 27th I bled for about 4 hours not heavy but enough to scare me. So I phoned 111 and after answering the questions they made an appointment for me at A&E. it was only after that my daughter said why did they ask if you had had a vaccine in the last 4 weeks?
what we have read is interesting, I had a trans vaginal scan last Tuesday morning and the lady who carried it out said that they had seen a lot more post menopausal women in the last few months, I told her about the vaccine and she said she would speak to her colleagues about it.

when she finished she looked up and said that everything looked good to her and the doctor would look at the images that afternoon.

Thursday I had a call to say could I come in to see the doctor, they gave me the option of a few dates over a 2 week period but I went for the first date to get it over and done with, the lady on the phone just said it's normal procedure when you have had a scan but I am now worried sick .

I have had no more bleeding at all but I have a lot of spare time because I am 7 weeks in with a broken humerus.

  • Hi i have severe health aniexy also dr keeps find in blood in urine test was given co amoxiclav and blood tests which showing inflamation but dont know where still haveing blood in urine after antibiotics dr said he will send my details to urologist to see f he wants to see me. but i thought i would be refererd anyway

    sorry spelling not good.

  • i was waiting five weeks for a result from biopsy, then consultant finaly rang me and said tests were inconclusive, so now i have to have aMRI.   Dont think these people realise we are real people with lives and worries we dont need this. i was told my results were late because consultants secratary was on holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • Exactly the same as me.  I've had the hysteroscopy today, but couldn't get the sample, so have to now go back in four weeks and have a General. Really Panicking.
    did they sort you??

  • I am 53. 3 postmenopausal bleeds over the month of June. Fast tracked. Got a transvaginal scan which showed 7mm womb thickness. As it's a one-stop-shop, I got a biopsy that day too. But that was 10 days ago and I've heard nothing. The consultant said 'very soon' I would get a call or letter, but nothing in 10 days. I am falling apart with anxiety and am having the most awful dreams that are getting worse each night. Just not knowing. Is this normal? Why ten days after my biopsy? Surely they know by now?!

  • I had my third biopsy on Wednesday and was told it would take 3-4 weeks before I hear.  7 mm isn't a huge thickness so don't get too worried.  I had tablets to start with but found they were not stopping the bleeding so I'm now with the mirena coil.  I'm nearly 60 and had a bleed almost a year ago.  Hopefully, if this biopsy is clear, I'll be discharged.  If there was a problem, they would know by now.  Try not to stress.  What will be will be but they will be there for you. X

  • Thank you Vulcan. From what you are experiencing, it seems 10 days isn't that long when waiting for biopsy results. I am trying to stay calm! I hope your results come back good for you x

  • I posted on here in September 2020 after scans, CA125, biopsy, polypectomy, hysteroscopy etc all following a number of PMBs of which the first was in May 2020 almost 3 years after my last period. Since then I've had a a further CA125 blood test and a number of scans to monitor a simple ovarian cyst but, satisfied it was shrinking, I was discharged last month. Unfortunately I've continued to suffer from cyclical bleeding which feels very hormonal (PMT, swelling breasts, bloating, headaches, cramping etc..) and although light these episodes seem to be getting longer and the last 2 have been at 21 day intervals and lasted for 11 days (brought back memories of peri menopause that I'd rather forget). Anyway I contacted my GP on receipt of the discharge letter and was referred back to Consultant who arranged for blood tests that clearly show I'm menopausal (FSH 57) but oestradiol level was 67 which is high for what will now be 4 years post menopause. I'm going to have another hysteroscopy and biopsy but I wonder if anyone has experienced something similar? I'm 63 and have an adulthood of hormone imbalance behind me. Last year I was relieved to be advised it was most likely atrophy but now I'm not sure about that diagnosis and am trying to tell myself at least they are determined to find the cause although I am petrified.
