Post menopausal bleeding

hi I am 51 . No period in 3 years then stared to bleed heavily . Doctor admitted me for scan . Scan showed 6mm womb lining . Ovaries fine cervix fine have been referred for hysterectomy and biopsy . I am so worried .bleeding stopped after about 4 to 5 days . Has anyone been through this I am so worried at the moment thanks

  • So I've also just experienced what seems to be a period although haven't had one for over 2 years. Strangely two weeks ago I felt very similar to how I used to mid way through cycle and remember thinking it wouldn't surprise me if I have a period in a fortnight! I'm really worried though because I realise it's regarded as abnormal and so getting it checked out next week.

  • I feel so well.  And look better than I did last year. But I had a mini period.  Saw gp. Now having the camera on Tuesday.  Confusing

  • So ...... I had the hysteroscopy on Thursday and it was very uncomfortable despite loading up on pain relief however the good news it that there was no polyp that they had thought they had originally seen on the scan. The consultant said the endometrium looked ok and he could see no abnormalities. He was unable to state why I had some bleeding so it's unsure if I will have any more I guess I will just have to wait and see.  To say I am thankful is an understatement as I've had some very dark days. However I can now look forward rather than thinking what if.
thankyou to everyone for your support at such a worrying  time.
I wish all of you luck for anyone going through this worrying time and it's good that it is being checked out early.

  • I'm so glad I've stumbled across this group. I'm going through exactly this now. I'm 55 post menopausal no period for 18 months then Sunday spotted blood as I wiped myself after a loo trip, thought what on earth! Thought i was past that, non of the usual period symptoms, in fact still several hot flushes daily, bleeding very light lasted no more than 24 hours. Googled it thinking its probably perfectly normal, then scared myself, telephone appointment with docs today, and she has referred me fast tracked, should wait no longer than 2 weeks, have to go tomorrow for blood tests at docs but not sure what they are for, and wait for hospital appointment. My doctor did say as it was quite early into post menopause 18 month since last period, she didn't think it was too cause for concern, but she had to refer me. Reading all your post has helped me a lot.

  • Hi there, I had similar. Nurse referred me as if you're post Meno and bleed they take it seriously now.

The cause of my bleed was a small polyp but in the diagnosis they also found some cysts that had been growing a couple of years, so caught them before they got large.  I went through 2 week wait and panicked.  But better they check it out and give us a bit of a worry than ignore us like they used to Xxxx

  • Hi, this post is the same situation as I find myself in. All very strange. I'm not over worrying about it at the moment (maybe I should be)? I'm at the hospital on the 9th within 2 weeks of the symptoms and will take it from there. So many very smiler stories it good to know it's not unique and what the reality of the findings for each person are. X

  • Hi, I have had heavy bleeding since mid December and waiting on hospital appointment next week for hysteroscopy, real bad pain in lower abdomen, telling family it will probably be nothing but am really worried, what if it's cancer?

  • Hi deborahp

I'm very much in the same situation, No periods for 16 months, then on sunday the floodgates opened, spoke to GP monday, had a scan booked in for tuesday, then phone call from gynaey constultant this morning, I have a cyst on my right ovary which I need blood tests for, but my lining is thick so will need a hyteroscopy with biopsywhich they are fast tracking.   I am all over the place, crying, thinking the worst, this page has helped to allay some fears, but I am not going to lie, I am frightened.

  • Hi there.  Don't be frightened.  I've just come back from my appt, 6 month follow up.  I've got a small thickening of the womb so this time I've asked for the Mirena coil.  I'm 59 and went through the menopause years ago til last July.  They are fast tracking you and at worst it may mean a hysterectomy.  It'snature's way if saying there's a blip.  The hysteroscopy us painful whilst it's being done but po sin goes when it's done.  Chin up and hopefully all will be ok xx

  • Hi Vulcan

Thanks for replying, I am up one minute and down the next....spent a lot of time with Dr Google (!) but thankfully found this page/posts.  I think I am panicking at the speed of it, I literally started bleeding on Sunday, spoke to the doc Monday, scanning department were booking me in an hour later, then scan yesterday, the sonographer confirmed I have a large cyst on my right ovary, a fibroid on my cervix neck, but them mentioned my lining was thicker than it should be, told me to chase GP after 2 days, only to get a call from the consultant today saying I need bloods for the cyst and a hysteroscopy....I have suffered for years with hideous periods, infertlity, endimetriosis...you name it I've had it...thenthe menopause came, and I happily waved goodbye to periods, so when I got this one on Sunday after a blissful period free 16 months(and prior to that only 1 in the previous 9 mnths), I literally thought, oh no, got to go through the menopause again...what a pain....to know hoping and praying thats all it is..I am being a bit of a drama queen, but this has really shook me....in some ways I hope I do get a hysterectomy, have been asking from one for years.  Thanks again for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.
