  • I'm 51 and 2 years post menopausal and I had what was exactly like a mini period in a day. Discharge in the morning, tiny amount of blood when I wiped at lunchtime, same but darker in the evening and the slight feeling in your tummy of when you are about to start a period. I wa scared but knew I had to get checked out as that's what I would tell anyone else! I was fast tracked - it's standard with any kind of PM bleed. Started with the ultrasound scan and then the vaginal one, she showed me it first, it's only like a pen, don't panic. She asked me to push down on one side so I knew she had seen something which was scary. The following week I went to the hospital for a hysteroscopy. Before I had that the senior gyne nurse spoke to me about the scan. I had a slightly thickened lining, which was fine, and two very small cysts on one side and one on the other. I was surprised because I'd obviously been asking Dr Google and thought that was unusual for someone two years PM. She said they weren't worried as the fluid looked clear but would take a biopsy anyway. Also standard. Anyway before the camera goes up they pump fluid into you and it hurt like a *** even with local. Sorry but trying to be honest! But then it was done and the two weeks of *** myself were over. It also so gave me the chance for a good chat with the nurse. I asked about hrt and she says it depends on each woman. I'd worried about hormone levels in the future and osteoporosis and she said unless you have family history you should be ok. You've had hormones in your body for decades so don't always need any more she explained. Made sense but I didn't know! My wonderful but male doctor had said if you don't need hrt don't take it as you're only delaying symptoms, which was right, but he'd nutshelled it and the nurse answered all my subsequent questions. So after all my waffle, don't worry, get checked out though, hope my experience helps anyone else who has had a similar thing!

  • Hi, glad to read you are doing well.

I'm 47, had horrendous lenses, then had abnormal cells on cervix, got checked every month and had a partial cervix removal for biopsy-everything was fine. Had reg lenses every 21 days for 3 days.then stopped bleeding over 18 months ago, hot flushes were drowning me so started get 5 months ago. Yesterday had bad pain, swelling in abdomen got up today to a period! Really??? Just waiting on gp phone consultation.

Just wanted to thank you all for your frank no nonsense no drama posts here.they were exactly what I needed today.

  • Hi

I'm 50 and have been 5 yrs into menopause and thought my periods were long behind me.  About 10 days ago I experienced very sore breasts, then the last three days had some abdominal cramping with some faint bleeding, feels like my periods used to.  I phoned my GP to book a Pap test and mentioned the bleeding, the GP phone back and arranged an appointment with the practice nurse the same day to see if there was anything obvious.  Apparently my cervix looked healthy (I'm taking that as a positive) but she said she could see where I was bleeding from and will refer e to the PMB clinic.  I am absolutely bricking myself in case they find anything sinister.  Everything I google indicates the worst and increases my fears.  Reading your posts has helped me calm down a bit.  I'm currently waiting for my referral letter.

  • Hi Silver50

Sorry to hear that you are worred about your untoward symptoms. It is good that you are getting a referral because you will know more about what is going on and be able to deal with it better.  The waiting is very scary in my experience and  probably the hardest thing to cope with especially when you have no idea what is happening. Please don't  spend your time looking at dr Google.  He will always seem to tell you the worst, particularly as you are probably thinking that way already. There are positive things on the internet but your brain isn't registering them.  Try to keep yourself occupied as best you can. Difficult I know in these times but do try.

I hope everything goes well for you. Let me know how you get on.

  • Thank you for your kind words. I will definitely let you know how I get on.

  • Hi, Any bleeding what so ever I'd check with your GP.  Good luck x

  • Hi there, I went through similar just over a year ago, triggered by bleeding and going for a smear test.  It took a few months of tests and scans, but nothing sinister in the end.  It was so stressful to go through,  but it's a step forward isn't it  that they do check us out now for the slightest bleed post Meno and take it seriously, instead of telling us to run along ....

  • So ..... I went for my scan today and I have a large polyp that is shadowing the rest of the uterus so this needs removing and being done on Thursday by hysteroscopy and then tested to see if it is cancerous or benign. Crossing fingers it's benign.  I also have a small cyst on my ovary which they were not concerned about. If there is any hint of cancer from the polyp then they will suggest a hysterectomy.  Thank you everyone for your support I feel more positive
