Potential Ovarian Cancer At 21

Hi everyone sorry if this is a long read but I am really worried that I may have ovarian cancer.

For the last couple months I have been having a lot of abdominal/pelvic pain which is similar to period pains but a lot worse sometimes it gets so bad that I can’t move or do anything for the pain. I have also been getting lower back pain and feel like my bladder is always full and I have not had a period for 3 months now. About 6 months ago I began to get what I think is Ibs which might be related to my other symptoms. I have been to the doctors a few times who seem to think that it is nothing to worry about because I’m young (21). Well the pain got really unbearable a couple nights ago and I went to A&E the doctor there was really concerned that my gp hadn’t referred me for tests at the hospital so he sent me home with painkillers and wrote my gp a letter advising him to refer me for an ultrasound. I got an emergency appointment for my gp yesterday and they have agreed to refer me for an ultrasound. He said he dosnt think I could have PCOS or endometriosis which is what I initially thought it might be. He said the chance of me having cancer at my age was really low but he would send me for the ultrasound just to be safe. I haven’t got a date for the ultrasound yet but I’m going out of my head with worrying I’m so worried that it might be cancer and I’m also really worried that they might not find anything on the scan which would put me back at square one. I don’t know how I’m going to cope waiting potentially a month for the ultrasound. Has anyone experienced these symptoms and what was the cause? How long did you have to wai for an ultrasound?

Thanks

  • Hi mb216 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to read what's been going on lately but I'm glad that the doctor you saw at A&E took you seriously and you've now got a referral for an ultrasound.

Our minds tend to run riot when waiting for tests (and results) as quite a few of our members have found out so hopefully you'll get some advice and support from them soon.

I know there isn't much I can say or do that will make this time go more quickly but many people have found keeping busy or distracting themselves with things they enjoy has helped make the wait a little bit easier.

Wishing you all the best for your ultrasound appointment when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you. I got my date for the ultrasound and it’s on Saturday so it’s not long to wait.

  • Hi mb216,

I can't imagine the worry you ust be going through. I hope that the ultrasound will find that it is nothing too serious. Please keep us updated, okay?

And as was said, try to focus on the positive. Try not to focus too much on the neagtive, and try to live in the moment. I know the waiting is the hardest part, and it's so hard to focus on the positive, but try to do things that can keep yourself busy, so you don't focus on it quite so much.

I hope everything turns out well for you.
