Colposcopy results

Had a routine smear done mid April which 2 weeks later results letter showed I had severe dyskaryosis and colposcopy appointment made for 4 days later. I attended clinic where specialist nurse said that I was high risk for HPV and severe dyskaryosis and took me through and did LLETZ straight away, removing whole of top layer of cervix for biopsy. 

I guess the question is is this normal? Everywhere I look online it says that ladies have been told they have had biopsy done at colposcopy which has then come back with the CIN grading and have had treatment after, whereas I had treatment immediately

    Hiya,

    I had the same thing done today - went for a colposcopy and they said due to severe cell abnormalities they would treat right away (so had LLETZ done and they removed cells and sent for biopsy). From what I understood, this is because when we have severe abnormalities it’s 90% certain that they are pre-cancerous and so there is no point delaying treatment whereas at a lower level they want to check first as its harder to detect.

    The main thing is you went, they’ve been taken out now and after the biopsy they’ll recommend what needs to be done next - if anything. The doctor reassured me today that this treatment is very effective. So hard not to worry but I have to keep reminding myself that this was a test for cells that may become cancer - not cancer itself. Sending love and good vibes your way! X
