I am worried alot

I have always had an occasional tender lump in one of my breasts due to a fall years ago and my mobile phone ariel went into it causing scar tissue.  I have been doing alot of lifting lately and the last few weeks I had this tender lump again and tenderness under my arm pit.

I went to see our nurse at the surgery last week who checked me but got the Dr to check.  She said to book an appointment to see her in 6 weeks, but if things got worse to come back in the meantime.  When the Dr felt under my arm pit it didn't feel tender.  However, by the time I got home there was. a message on my phone for me to make a appointment for a mamagram.  Which I'm dreading as I have saggy boobs. Really embarressed.

My Main worry is if it's cancer - I know I won't be able to cope with that.  Everyone keeps telling me that it is most probably a cyst - but does or can it cause a tenderness in the arm pit?  The lump is in the right breast on the inner side not on the outer side near the arm pit.   Worried to death isn't an understatment.  Do cysts go away on their own?

  • Hi iluvmom,

I'm sorry to read about this and your worries are perfectly natural and understandable. Sometimes the uncertainty can be really difficult, so at least when you have your mammogram you should get some more clarity and a way forward - and I'm sure there's no need to be embarrassed, they will have seen everything.

It's often helpful to talk through your worries with someone else - hopefully you have someone you are able to speak to, or otherwise I hope you find that writing your concerns on here is helpful.

In terms of your questions, I'm unable to advise but I would suggest speaking to our nurses if you have any particular questions or concerns. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

I would also suggest writing down any questions you have prior to your appointment so that you don't forget to ask anything.

    Wishing you all the best.

    Ben
