Tonsil cancer scare.. please help

Hi everyone

I noticed  a swollen tonsil in November. I was only seen by a specialist last week who says I need my tonsils and adenoid removed and tested for cancer.

I am 26 year old female and smoke maybe 5 cigs a day. I also have ear pain that is coming and going . What I am also nervous from is since 2016 I have had pulsatile tinititus in the same ear and side of the tonsil which now I'm worried if it is cancer that It is there 3 years. My weight has been up and down During this time.  I was at my thinnest a couple of months ago. I've since put up weight.

Did anyone else have pulsatile tinititus from tonsil cancer.

Can anyone offer any opinion or advice. I'm terrified. I am waiting on a call to get them removed.  Ireland is having a health care crisis so this could take awhile.

  • [@Mariag123]‍  May be able to help you with this. But she only had her tonsils removed yesterday so may not be around these boards for a few days. Also if you look in The group thread Radiotherapy for throat cancer you may also get help there. I use this group everyone is super helpful . I know you haven’t got a diagnosis yet and hopefully it’s good news for you but some people there with tonsil cancer may be able to answer your question. Hugs Ginny x  PS my husband has larynx cancer and didn’t smoke it’s not always smoking related so don’t be hard on yourself. X

  • Hi Chanmc21

None of us are medically qualified to make any sort of diagnosis here but, and only my view, I would doubt tonsil cancer symptoms would last for 3 years and would be picked up at some point before then.
I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer last year, dont smoke and had lump in neck and red/enlarged tonsil for mths before eventually diagnosed.
Best advice I can give you is to take baby steps and wait and see what the tests show as it will not automatically be cancer just because you are referred to have checked.
Lets hope its restricted to tonsil/adenoid removal and take it from there. I had my tonsil out and you will need to concentrate on that recovery first as it can be a little challenging.
I did start a thread called Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer and you will find plent of support and help there from many.
I have also kept a blog but dont feel its appropriate to share with you are a little clearer on your situation.
I know its hard, but try and stay as positive as you can and wait on test results. Your age is a good factor in your favour.

Let me know if I can help in any way or id you have any other questions and STAY OFF google.

    kind regards
    Ian

  • Hi there

again, I'm sorry to hear that and obviosuly causing you further agnst.
I would suggest you go back to your medical support team and have a chat with them considering you were seen by a specialist last week and anything of concern would or should have been outlined at the appointment. There are guidelines on how long the pathway should be so I would be pushing to see when the tests you mentioned will be done

    regards
