Endometrium biopsy

Went to Gp for prolonged  pv bleeding thinking it was probably hormonal. Had scan thickened and cystic endometrium.  Referred rapid access to hospital,  seen 3 days later and had GA hysteroscopy & biopsy just 4 days later. Now waiting 2 weeks for the results. It's been an emotional rollercoster as it's all happened so quickly. Being a nurse myself definately doesn't help but I'm  trying to stay positive.

  • Hi,

I suffer with anxiety as well especially around medical appointments so know what you mean. I also didn't have the covid vaccine, not for any medical reason, probably more because I don't trust it, so I understand you not wanting to have it because of the risk of myocarditis.

I got a letter through online from the hospital last night that said..."The histopathology suggested abnormal changes namely endometrial atypical hyperplasia, however, It was commented that the sample was too small to rule out sinister pathology. I have arranged to have another biopsy taken under general anaesthesia so we can extract as much tissue as possible. This should be arranged in a timely manner."

So now I've got to have a general anaesthetic which fills me with dread, not had one for 14 years and I've put a lot of weight on since lasting having one, so scared of the risks associated with it. Also I sort of feel back to square one because to me it sounds like they don't actually know it's atypical hyperplasia and they haven't ruled out it not being cancer. Going to try ringing them today because to send that letter online but for no one to explain anything to me seems strange.

    Take care x

  • Hi, I was terrified of GA but I can honestly say the only thing that was like an ouch was the canula going it , looking up to the ceiling breathing through the mask and then I woke up in recovery.

I also never took the covid vaccine as i do not trust it either .

Can I private message you  x

  • Yer you can private message me x

  • I've had all my information sent to me by letter too - the only people I've spoken to in person were the ladies doing the initial ultrasound and hysteroscopy and they of course are what triggered the MRI, CT scans. Results from all of those came in letters - out of order - so they made little sense. I could not get through to the hospital so I rang the GP and said I did not understand and he went through everything with me.

I hope you're not waiting too long for your next biopsy and lets hope that it is the atypical hyperplasia and so precancerous. That's treatable isn't it? I get your fear of the GA - but I suppose what is new and scary to us is just routine to them and they know what they are doing. Good luck

  • Hi Leni56,

Thanks for your reply! I never seem to be able to get through to the hospital either, which is really annoying! I might try messaging my GP see if they can explain things a bit more to me.

Yer I'm just hoping I haven't left it too long before being seen because I've been ignoring or being ignored by doctors about my problems for a while now. I think if it's atypical the treatment is usually a full hysterectomy but that's just from what I've read on the internet. I'm only 34 with no children so I don't know if they'll want to do that, but we've tried for years and years to get pregnant and it's never happened.

Good luck to you too, take care x

  • I'm sorry , I hadn't realised that the treatment for atypical was usually a full hysterectomy. I hope everything works out for you and that are able to go ahead and start your family.

Mine was a telephone appointment with the GP after I phoned the surgery and spoke to the receptionist.

I had the works back in July - ultrasounds, hysteroscopy and womb biospsy, blood tests, MRI and CT scans. They found several ovarian cysts of up to 5.5cm, fibroids and a womb lining of 14.9mm  but nothing of concern so I was put on 'watch and wait' with another ultrasound and womb biospy in January. Blood test results meant I was referred to the Upper GI dept as well though and having another MRI this week

  • I don't know for sure if that's the only treatment option, that's just what the internet suggests. Tbh I'd come to the realisation we most likely wouldn't have kids a few years back, so have made peace with that. If the only option is a full hysterectomy then I'd rather have that so I can live my life to the fullest. My real worry from this letter is, surely if there was no sign of it having already turned cancerous then they'd have been able to see that from the biopsy but to not be able to rule it out makes me think is it possibly showing some sign that it already has.

Oh gosh you've been through it then with all your tests and then the wait for the results as well. It's the waiting for everything that's the worst, and the not knowing what's going on with your body. Have you not spoken to any doctors at the hospital when your results from tests have come back?

Good luck with your MRI this week, take care x

  • Hi,

i hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread. I had my hysteroscopy on the 12th Dec so I'm 2-3 weeks behind you all but can't stop worrying about the result which I don't think I'll get until after Xmas. I have a 5cm fibroid that they found on an ultrasound, but the bleeding I'm getting daily (for months) is from my cervix which they cauterised during the hysteroscopy. They found a polyp as well which they removed so having that analysed and they took a biopsy from the fibroid.

My worry though is that I've had such an off year with health. But more recently I'm getting awful back pain but only at night, the other night it kept me awake for hours. Now I seem to have little dull aches all over my arms and sometimes thighs. I noticed before the hysteroscopy my oxygen levels were 94 which I think is low so maybe I just have poor circulation to my limbs. I have days where my abdomen hurts too and days of bloating, nothing painful at all just enough to feel little dull pains.

Did you have any other symptoms? I'm 37, pre menopausal. I have PCOS as well which I know heightens the risk. Last time I had a similar scare my anxiety was so bad during waiting for results I got alopecia....I hate the waiting.

  • Hi Jenna,

I too have PCOS which has been left untreated, so I think that is possibly what has caused this issue now from what I've read on the internet. The doctor said she could see lots of small polyps when she was doing my Hysteroscopy as well and took biopsies from various parts of my womb because the lining was so thick. She seemed surprised by what she found and then told me after that it doesn't look innocent, which made the wait for results even worse, all I did for the first few days was cry. Did the doctor say anything about the lining of your womb after doing the Hysteroscopy?

Yer I've had like a dull ache or some sort of pain in either my lower abdomen or lower back for ages. I've been putting it down to the PCOS or from standing at work all day and more recently since the biopsy in my thighs. I'm think from what I've read fibroids can cause a lot of these symptoms as well, so hopefully that's what's causing yours and nothing too serious.

The anxiety of waiting for the results is the worst, especially if your bleeding still because it's like a constant reminder of what's happening. I feel like I'm not much further on after the results have come back because they'll not been able to rule out cancer still.

How long did you have to wait after ultrasound to see the gynaecologist? My GP referred me as urgent but the gynae department reviewed it and marked me as routine, so had to wait about 6 months and now everything seems like it's urgent.

Let us know how you get on with your results. Try to distract yourself as much as possible, easier said than done I know.

    Take care x

  • Also have they tested you for anaemia? I think that cause low oxygen levels as well
