What to expect ?

hi, hope you are all well

i have received a fast track referral from my gp to the breast clinic . I wasn’t really given much information via the phone call other than to expect the appointment to be up to 3 hours long . I’m not sure what to expect and am really nervous . I keep fearing the worst is going to come back . I am 20 years old and have a 3 year old little boy. I haven’t spoken to my family about the appointment as my mother went through the same at an early age  and my grandmother passed from breast cancer and I wouldn’t like to cause upsetment or worry . I will be attending alone and would just like an idea as to what goes in . Will my results be given on the day ? It’s proving difficult to stay positive I still have 4 days to wait and each day is seeming harder I keep getting horrible thoughts of my son been left without me just completely feeling negative right now . I wouldn’t want to bother my gp so here I am for reassurance .

  • Hi

i don’t have any experience of breast cancer but I do understand how awful it is waiting and how much your mind can go into overdrive thinking the worst. All I can say to try to reassure you is what others have said to me and that is that medical advancements in cancer treatment are really good now. And I understand that the treatment of breast cancer is exceptionally good. I hope that your appointment goes well and that you get good news. Sending you positive thoughts and best wishes x
