Waiting for appointment at breast clinic

Hi I have just joined this forum I am freaking out at the moment.I found a 5 cm lump in my left breast on the 7th of this month.managed to get an appointment with the urgent care clinic at guys hospital today dr that examined me said the lump was large and that it is movable when touched.he then said I had to get a urgent appointment at my gp surgery which I did today this dr also said that it's about 5cm and moveable both she and the other dr mentioned fibroadenoma and a cyst.i check my breast regularly has my mum died from breast cancer last check about a few weeks ago and this lump wasn't there. I have got an appointment at the breast clinic next Friday at 9 30 in the morning.im still thinking the  worst. The dr said that the lump being movable was a good sign as cancer lumps tend to stay in one place and are immobile not sure how true that is.not long after I got home from my app I got a call from the receptionist at my surgery saying that because they have access to the breast clinic appointment system I was able to book the app with her over the phone.im wondering if the dr asked her to ring me because she does think it's more urgent and she was just trying to make me feel better when she said she thinks it could be a cyst.im hoping that it's all good.

  • Hi there ..

I know it's really scary waiting for tests and results .. they tend to fast track all Brest lumps now .. so don't over think how quick it's going .. that's the norm ...

Now keep in mind 8.5 out of 10 lumps are benign... lve had 5 call backs ... the first 4 were all o.k .. yet each one was scary ... even if it is positive... there's loads of us breast lasses on here and holding on, and kicking cancers butt ... myself included ... treatment for breast cancer has come on in leaps and bounds ... so hold on in there , and let us know how you go ... Chrissie x

  • Thank you all for your advice.i will keep in mind that 8.5 out of 10 are benign .hoping to be the one with a benign lump.its just quite large which is concerning me I know that that doesn't mean that it's cancer.i will try to stay positive and wait for my appointment.i will let you know how I get on xx

  • Hi Julie

Waiting to find out what is wrong is the worst time.  I know I have just gone through the same thing last week.  I was convinced mine was cancer. (2nd time around) The GP even suggested that it was a strong possibility.  But I got a complete ALL CLEAR  NOT CANCER.  The fact that your lump moves is quite a good point.

You feel so out of control and life seems to just stand still for you.  Keep yourself occupied.  I found when I just could not stand it any longer I would walk up the woods and found it really did calm me down.  If the night terrors come, then go downstairs, scribble all your horrible thoughts in a notebook, get it all out.  It used to calm me down, enough to go back to bed and sleep.  Cancer is not the end these days.  I had my cancer in the breast 23 years ago and prognosis was not brilliant.   You think how much the drugs and treatment have come on in all that time.  It can and is very treatable.

So, a nice deep breath and say to yourself, if it is then I am going to meet you head on and get it sorted and then get on with my life

Just wanted you all to know I had my appointment yesterday. The lump turned it to be alot bigger than first thought which was scary to hear. The doctor ordered an ultrasound which confirmed that I had to cysts together which was why it was so big.iam so relieved that it was just a cyst. The worry I had has gone now for me so I can now go and enjoy my holiday next week

Thank You all for your advice and support
