Lump in thigh

Hello,

Going through a stressful time at the moment. 21, pregnant and worrying about a lump on my thigh.

I noticed it it about a year ago, running my hand across my thigh you can feel a bump— not something you can see very well unless I’m tensing my leg. It’s not painful, I can’t really tell how big it is as it just feels like part of the muscle (defo not though as other leg is fine.) I went to the doctors when I first found it, and she was unable to feel it, even though I could so she told me to come back when it’s noticable.

Well I don’t feel like it’s got any bigger in the time since. You can still feel and slightly see it from the side. So I got her to check it out again, she didn’t really say anything— to be honest it looked like she was having trouble finding it. She has referred me for an urgent ultrasound to get it checked out, which can be a 6 week wait and now I am left worrying.

When I questioned her about it she said she suspects it a fat lump but I don’t know how she can make that assumption when she looked like she couldn’t even find it??

when lookign at lipomas online they look more round and defined, mine looks and feels like a bump and deep rather than under the skin. I can’t help but worry when I google things as it just floods the pages with sarcoma. I know it’s very rare, and most lumps turn out to be nothing but I’m very scared and feel awful about the wait until I find out what it is.

Sorry if I’ve not posted this in the right place!

  • Sorry to hear you are worried.

How big is it? I have one similar but it's very tiny so I didnt get it checked out.

Let us know how it goes.

  • It feels bigger than a pea but it's very flat so hard to tell how big it actually is, and whether it moves or not. I initially thought I had injured my muscle, as it literally just feels like a bump, but way too much has passed for it to be something like that.

Doctor isn't concerned as it doesn't hurt and it's not getting bigger-- but from what I read sarcomas don't tend to hurt anyway, so just confused. :(

  • Although I'm not a doctor I think sarcomas tend to grow very quickly.

I understand where you coming from as soon as I wrote in Google lump in thight all it came up was sarcoma....

  • Exactly! I know people say to stay away from google, but if it weren't for google I would of probably just brushed it off.

Just hope an appointment comes through quickly so I can forget about it or deal with it.

  • Update:

ultrasound booked for tomorrow. Very nervous but glad I don’t have to wait much longer.

Do the sonographers tend to tell you what it is there? If it’s a fat lump for example? Or wil the doctor have to tell you.

    Thanks!

  • Just tell the radiographer you are very nervous she may be able to tell you something.

    Update with results!

  • Hey!

just been for the scan— was the same guy who done my 20 week pregnancy scan so that put me at ease as he was very nice.

Talked me through it and showed me the scan itself but he couldn’t see anything— so it’s not a lipoma but he also said he’s no concerned at all 1) because he couldn’t see anything 2)we couldn’t locate it today, and if it was something serious it would get bigger not smaller

He thinks it’s a muscle tear which is herniating through at times. But he will speak to the Snr radiographer to see if he wants me to come back for another scan.

Its put my mind at rest a lot that he doesn’t think it’s a nasty lump.

Thanks for responding to my post PositiveJ

Any further updates will be posted here as know it’s hard finding a lump and not being able to relate to anyone or their circumstances.

  • I'm so happy for you!

That's very true, malignant lumps as far as i know tend to grow not shrink !

You are very welcome, let me know what they say!

    Hugs

  • I had exactly the same I went about a year ago I could feel a lump but the doctor couldn't feel it so didn't worry about it but went the hospital with a knee injury yesterday and told her about it the nurse felt it and told me it'd hard and doesn't move and I needed to get it investigated further im worried sick now and have since found 2 other lumps in the same leg one is about 2 inches from my knee one is small and at the top of my thigh and one is at the top at the back of my thigh

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Sara although I'm sorry for the worry these lumps are causing.

I just wanted to reply to you as I noticed you had posted on a discussion that hasn't been active since 2019, so you may not hear back from anyone on here.

I really hope that won't be the case but if you don't receive any replies, you could try reaching out to others on more recent discussions you find about this topic or you can start your own.

Unexplained lumps and bumps are always a worry but hopefully the further investigations that will be taking place will show they are no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,
