Results

Hi everyone, 3 weeks ago I had a mole removed from my back and have been waiting for the results ever since, they told me it would be 2 weeks.  Today I had a phone call from the appointments team asking me to go and see the Dermatology Specialist Nurst on Thursday at 4.00pm, I think that's what she called her, I was in total shock at the phone call.  I am hoping it was a case of no news is good news but now am starting to panic.

If it was bad news surely I would have seen a Consultant? Am I right?  I am only thinking this as nearly 10 years ago I had breast cancer and saw a Consultant to get the results.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • Thank you

Hello Sarah1210 and thank you for your post.

Please do not read too much into this appointment and who is giving you the results. This does not mean you have or have not got a melanoma, so you still have to wait for this appointment to know what this is.

I am sorry not to be able to tell you more and hope you will be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thank you, my problem is I've consulted Dr. Google too many times.

    Will keep you posted tomorrow

  • ok so I received my results yesterday, I have or had stage 2 melanoma.  It hadn't gone down too far only 0.7mm which is a bonus but I've still got to have a further procedure to make sure they didn't leave any behind surrounding it.

I've also been told that I can't sit in the sun any more (not that I did beforehand without cream on) but I' going on holiday to Turkey in 4 weeks time so I shall be the one sitting underneath the umbrella dressed like a beekeeper!  I have stocked up on factor 50 and bought myself a hat but she told me to wear shorts and t-shirt on the beach/around the pool but as long as I sit under my umbrella hopefully I will be ok.

So it would seem that I have beaten cancer for a second time in 10 years. Go me
