Diagnosis pending

I originally saw my GP about my symptoms in December 2017... But he was so dismissive that I felt a bit stupid and left it. I eventually saw a different GP in march, and it has taken this long for me to get an urgent ultrasound (large cyst on ovary found), and a blood test (elevated CA125). I've now been referred for urgent gynae appointment, but nearest appointment is booked for two weeks from now.

GP seems fairly sure it's ovarian cancer, so I am worrying now about all these delays... Is there any way to speed it up? I can't afford to go totally private, but we might be able to pay for initial consultation or other bits and pieces? Are there any guidelines about how quickly they should be dealing with me?

Thanks

  • Hi kiwi guide lines say two weeks sometimes it can be longer (not a lot happens in to weeks), as you found out some GPS aren't very good, hope you get sorted soon best of luck.

  • Hi

I am in a similar position, CA125 level of 821 and large cyst on right ovary, and was initially referred through the 2 week urgent referral system. I am now 1 week away from surgery to remove my ovaries for ovarian cancer. I have been told that if I came off the 2 week system even to go partly private then it could slow things down.

My initial appointment was about 2 weeks, then I was just over a week for my ct scan and another week to get results. I then had a further consultation with the surgeon 2 weeks after that and surgery was bkd for 10 days later (now a week away). It is a scary time but you have to trust that the system works, talking to my macmillan nurse she said if they needed to get me in urgently they would, so although waiting is incredibly hard we just have to try and get thru it as best as we can.

I really hope you get seen soon, good luck x
