Waiting for results

I phoned the hospital Wednesday to find out what my ct results were they wouldn't tell me but did say that my results are going to be reviewed by the mdt team who ever they are and a letter would be sent out iv not received anything yet and I'm getting more and more anxious

  • Hi kagan you don't say how long you've been waiting for the results it can take 3or4 weeks most are a bit quicker but if the team are going to have a meeting it depends on what they decide on, it could be longer. Sorry its not very helpful, good luck with results.

    Hi Kagan,

The hospital cannot give this sort of information over the phone. Most consultants like to give you the results face to face, regardless of whether or not the results are good or bad.

It is common practice for the consultant to get your results back and, then to consult his MDT (Multidisciplinary team) to discuss the best way forward for you. They usually hold these meetings weekly and, once they have decided what they suggest for you, you will usually get a letter or a phone call inviting you in to discuss any findings with your consultant.

You do not say what your symptoms are, or what type of cancer you are expecting to find. Some biopsies take longer than others, depending upon whereabout in the body they are taken from. Likewise, some people may need additional testing after a CT scan. This is not an indication of anything untoward, it is a case of having a thorough and conscientious doctor on board. I'm sure that you wouldn't want your team to miss anything, so try and bear with them.

When did you have your CT scan? It is always a scary time waiting for results. I hope that it all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Kagan,

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. You are naturally worried and scared, but this is not at all unusual. Most people here will agree that this is one of the most scary times of the cancer journey. There are so many unknowns still and you have been waiting for a while.

Just a tip, in case you have to have any further tests, always ask at the time of your test, when you are likely to get your results. This will give you a rough time  to expect to have your results back. It is not at all unusual for you to find your emotions all over the place at this stage. We often imagine others signs and symptoms, more as a result of our anxiety, than due to cancer. I hope that your tiredness doesn't last too long. This was something that I found very difficult to beat.

Give the doctor's secretary a week from when you last spoke to her and, phone again to inform her that you haven't had a letter yet for your next appointment. If it hasn't already been sent out, ask her when she is likely to send it to you.

You are doing the best thing in trying to distract yourself from the wait by keeping busy. Also, try to avoid consulting Dr Google, as this is often poorly researched, out of date or spectacular.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine
