Hi there ...
Firstly breath ... a couple of days won't change things ... and remember 8.5 out of 10 of breast lumps are fine ... my first 4 call backs from mamorgrams were all clear... so hold on, try not to panic ..
Let us know how it goes ... fingers crossed ... Chrissie x
Hi Holly,
A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear the reason for you joining. It is typical that you have discovered something amiss over a bank holiday weekend. An extra couple of days shouldn't make any difference to your diagnosis. Why not phone the clinic first thing on Tuesday morning? Be sure to tell the receptionist that you need an emergency appointment. She will probably then ask why you need one so soon, so you will need to be ready to tell her why.
There are a number of different reasons for breast lumps and not all of them are cancer. I see that Chrissie has already given you the figures, so here's hoping that you are oneof the 8.5 lucky ones!
If your GP is at all suspicious, you will be referred to a breast clinic. You will usually be seen there within 2 weeks. If the consultant thinks that there might be anything untoward, he will arrange for you to have some tests - usually a mammogram, an ultrasound and a biopsy. You then have another anxious wait of 1-2 weeks before you get the results of these.
Unfortunately, panicking won't change the outcome, so there is no point in worrying about this discovery. Time enough to stress if you do get a positive diagnosis.
Exactly what have you discovered that is making you so worried and, whe did you first notice it? Fortunately, even if you are told the worst, most breast cancers are treatable nowadays. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years.
Try to distract yourself by keeping busy over the weekend. This should help to make your wait a little easier.
Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
