Worried - being strong for Family. Dad’s PSA

Hi my dad had a routine blood test on Thursday and Friday the Doctor called. We went in and she advised my Dad’s PSA is very high (over 600) and said she would refer him to see someone within 2 weeks. We were shocked and didn’t expect this, we didn’t even think Prostate and it was a last minute added on test by the Doctor.  My Dad doesn’t know his level at mo as I asked Doctor while he was in the toilet.  I’m feeling a bit numb after looking up ‘what it means to have a PSA over 600’.  Not sure what to think or do, a 2 week wait seems forever now plus a Bank Holiday too.  I’m the strong one for the family and look after them all. I just found this page and thought I’d say. Thank you.

  • Hi LoLo.

I am sorry to read about your dads PSA bieng so high. But there is a guy on here Billygoat whos PSA was much higher. Im sure he will make contact with you soon.

It is a worrying timWaiting is one of the worst things about cancer. e for everyone. Have lost 12 members of my family to cance and having had prostate cancer myself. I would just mention I feel it is often harder for the family and friends of the patient. For you are putting on a brave face for everyone but it is often the case that you are falling apart inside. As the patient I felt at least I had some controlover how I felt  but as a carereer I couldnt control how I felt when my mother and others had the cancer. So I do know how you must be feeling.

We have a lot of very supportive people on this site so plese keep us informed .Sending kind thoughts to you and your dad, Brian
