Biopsy from my mouth (inside cheek)

Hi everyone.

I never expected to be posting here. Do any of us? I had a biopsy on March 5th for a largish patch inside my cheek due to a poorly executed filling (2 years prior) I was told that I'd receive my results via letter in approximately 6 weeks. March 15 a letter arrives giving me an appointment next Wednesday (April 6th). I telephoned the hospital and asked why I had an appointment and they said it was a 'just incase' to keep me in the system if needed and would be cancelled if my results were negative. I phoned again this Wednesday as still no results and was told that they wouldn't come to me, they would go to my GP. I phoned my GP and was told the letter had been requested back by my consultant? The GP receptionist said to phone the consultants secretary. I did (panic setting in) She said that you are seeing the consultant next week and he'll discuss everything with you.

As you can imagine I feel incredibly anxious. It's pure terror 24/7. I don't know why I can't be told. It could just be poor communication (I'm hoping) or not such good news. I take my father to appointments regularly at different hospitals and he's never been given a 'just incase' appt Feeling so scared

  • Hi Vonn,

    Welcome to the forum.

If the appointment is a precaution, as they say, that should be encouraging. I can understand you may be anxious, especially as it took a number of calls to get your appointment confirmed, but it's good that the consultants are keeping an eye on this 'patch' you have and you are not feeling like your concerns are being ignored, panicing won't help.

I hope next week's appointment goes well.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Anastasia

I have been keeping myself busy and trying not to think about it. As you say, worry and panic won't help. I'm usually ok until late evening. The brain is a funny thing.

Not long to wait now. They didn't say to bring anyone so I'm hopeful that this is a positive sign.

    Thanks again
