Confused about colposcopy results

Hi all. I had a smear test recently and it came back as Borderline changes and hpv positive. (all previous smears have been clear) I've had my colposcopy today and I'm a bit confused as to what happens next. The nurse looked at my cervix and kinda went ’hmmm?’ and proceeded to take a sample for biopsy which worried me. After I got changed I tried to ask questions but she seemed in a rush and I didn't really get any answers apart from her confirming that I did have changes on my cervix. My question is, why did she take a biopsy if they are only borderline changes as I've heard that not everyone needs a biopsy during a colposcopy and borderline changes are usually left to wait and see. Is it possible she saw more severe changes but didnt tell me? If so why did she not offer me treatment to remove the cells. All she said was that we have to wait for biopsy results to come back before deciding on the next step. This leaves me back to square 1 worrying and not knowing. Has anyone else had this or any advice? Thanks

  • Hello Worrymummy87,

Welcome to our forum! I completely understand why this has left you feeling confused but all you can do now is wait for the biopsy results and I hope these will come very quickly.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
