Suspected colorectal cancer referral

Hello,

I have been recently referred for a colonoscopy for suspected colorectal cancer, this is due to high levels of faecal calprotectin (>2000 ug/g), i am trying to research this level of faecal calprotectin concetration to try and find out if it could possibly colorectal cancer or something else  like crohn's, has anyone else had a faecal calprotectin level this high and what could it possibly  mean? As you can imagine I am really concerned.

Kind regards

Duane.

  • Hi Duane,

Hopefully you'll hear from some of our members who have been in similar situations soon but in the meantime try to resist researching this (especially through Dr.Google) as despite your good intentions, it will only make your fear and worries worse.

I hope you don't have too long to wait for your colonoscopy and that it goes well when the time comes.

    All the best,

  • Hi Steph,

Thank you for your reply, yes absolutely not taking anything that is online as gospel, just trying to understand what could be related to those levels of faecal calprotectin.

Any information from others on here is welcome.

    Kind regards,

    Duane.

  • Hi Duane. I have just been reading your post and was wondering how you got on.

  • Hi Rettz,

Since my last post, I have had the colonoscopy, an MRI of the small intestine, ultrasound of the lower abdomen plus numerous blood tests, and everything is either clear or normal. I really am stuck on what it could be, I am still bleeding from the rear, yet is not a pile. I am just a confused mess, however i am waiting for a referral appointment to gastroenterology.

  • Hi

I'm glad to hear the test has not shown anything awful but I completely understand how frustrating this must be for you especially if you are still suffering with bleeding.

I'm currently waiting on my second stool sample to come back (tomorrow) as my first one showed a result of 410.  In the last 5 years I've had about 6 episodes of blood in my poop. I suffer with loose stools and occasional belly ache.

I've been so worried this week and just wishing my result comes back normal. I think I will still need further test but it will help my health anxiety.

I hope you get the answers you need to be able to move on from this. X

  • Hi Lorette,

The waiting and unknowing is the worst part of it for me, there is something obviously physically wrong, but as to what is causing it, is still to be discovered.

My fingers are crossed for you tomorrow and hope you have some good news and a way forward.

    Take care.

  • Hi,

Hope you are well. How did you get on?

    Regards,

    Simon
