Results only to be given at appointment with consultant

Hi,

I had a laparoscopy and an endometrial biopsy taken (as a 1cm polyp), on March 25th, soon after the follow up gynae appointment was made for May 21st - 7 weeks after the operation! 

I phoned up the secretary a few weeks ago and she said firmly that they do not give results by letter or phone call I will only get them when I see the consultant in May. 

I've been trying not to think about it, and even the GP surgery has not been sent the results (but were sent the smear test result that thankfully was negative). 

If they do find cancer will my appointment be changed to see them sooner or is a 7 week waiting time normal for results?

    Hopefully you are OK if it was C you should have found out in two weeks that's the rule. Keep chasing them up.

    Thanks for your reply, it seems because of the backlog it has taken about double the time to get results and so perhaps that's partly why having to wait so long? The smear test took 3.5 weeks for the result to be at the GP surgery and I know (because I work in a hospital in histology, am currently off work sick) that the biopsies take about a week longer than the smear tests unless they are marked as urgent (which mine wasn't because it was a polyp). So maybe the biopsy result isn't even ready yet? I will phone gynae at the hospital again today (they sent the biopsy off to another hospital as they don't have their own pathology labs to analyse it).

    I phoned the Gynae Secretary at the hospital again  today and, without her knowing my name or result, she said that the GP surgery needs to phone them and ask for the biopsy result to be sent there. Then I phoned the GP surgery and the receptionist said that she will phone the hospital and ask them to email the result. She called back 10 minutes later and told me that the hospital said that they will not send the result to the GP until I have seen the consultant in May. That made me even more worried!

    Nothing I can do now but wait for a month to get the results (which seems like they have just come through as there was a backlog).
