Hard lump in breast 5weeks after breast feeding

Hi all,

im interested in other people’s experience of hard lumps in their breast. I have had a large hard lump in my breast, which I put down to a clogged milk duct whilst breast feeding. However 5 weeks after stopping breastfeeding, the lump was still there so I went to see the gp.

ive been referred to the breast clinic and I’m now waiting. It’s so hard not to worry and I’m wondering if anyone has experienced a hard lump and breast pain and it turn out to not be cancer. I’m praying it’s just a blocked duct but I can’t find any information about this after weaning off breastfeeding.

  • Hiya I got a notification that someone posted on this thread and wanted to reassure you. I had a lump that wouldn't go too when I was breastfeeding (first baby). Doctor said it might just be hormones and to go back again in a month. I did as it was still there. As you can imagine also my anxiety was through the roof. Mine was also fairly large and a large grape size. It felt (because I would obsessively feel it)  firm but smooth. No 'spiky ' edges.

It turned it to be a cyst and I had 3-4 more after in different breasts for about 18 months after. Aparantly it was probably due to an overproduction in hormones dye to my pregnancy. Never had it before!

I never had any pain either.

Hope this helps a bit. :)

  • Hi there

Thanks for your reply. That does make me feel a bit better. Mines quite smooth and I am forever touching it. Putting a hot water bottle on it. Wishing it go away.

I hope it straight forward as that. When I look back when my milk came in and got lumps in different breast I did touch them and no lumps before so I am staying hopeful but my head telling me why I not taking it seriously and why I didn't check back in March.

Fingers cross all goes well next Wednesday x
