Colposcopy results

I had a smear result of high grade (severe) dyskaryosis. I’ve been for my colposcopy today and he said it was a very large area affected and I will need to have treatment under general anaesthetic. He took around 15isj or more biopsies and said my cervix is puckered. He said the results will be back in 2 weeks of my biosody and he will book my op after this date to decide on what treatment needs doing.

He queried if I missed any smears and I’m only 28 so haven’t.

jusy need peace of mind as I thought i would get treatment there and then and wasn’t expecting this result! Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • Hi, I have recently been through the same as you. I went for a colpocopkycon March 13th, 2 weeks later I got my results that I had cin 3 and would require treatment. Last Tuesday I got a call to go in the following day and have the lletz treatment. I was put to sleep and didn't feel a thing. I too was sort of hoping to be treated on the day of the colposcopy but I think because my entire cervix was covered in abnormal cells, it would be easier for both the doctors and myself to be put to sleep.

My last smear was in 2016. I've been in so much pain since August 2018 and have been bleeding irregularly, quite heavily, since before xmas. To cut a long story short, 6 doctors later and 500 euro down the pan, I seen a lovely lady doctor that said I needed to be referred to gynae to figure out what is going on. My smear wasn't due until December 2019. There is so much going through my head right now as I didn't think cin 3 showed any symptoms (I've also been googling too much).

Anyway, don't you be worrying about not getting treated on the day. As I said earlier I think it's just easier on both the doctor and patient if the patient is put to sleep. I hope this helps and helps put your mind at ease.

    Take care xx

  • I have had two LLETZ done and was put out twice so now I have regular smears every 6 months just to make sure no abnormal cells have returned. But I recently had a biopsy of the womb done so waiting on results from that as my lining of the womb is quite thick

  • Hi, I'm in exactly the same boat as you now, what were your results if you don't mind me asking?

  • Hi unfortunately I had 1b1 adenosquamous cell carcinoma. I had a radical hysterectomy in August and lymph node removal. Thankfully I got the all clear and didn't need further treatment. I've ended up with Lymphadema and Nerve damage but over all recovering well. Xx

  • So so sorry to hear that but so glad you are recovering well now xx
