Lump in neck, gp not concerned

ive had a lump in my neck, right side, for about 5-6 weeks. Well thats when i noticed it. I booked an app with gp, ended up with a trainee gp who said lymph gland it should go down and booked me blood tests for 2 weeks. Blood test came back normal apart from raised platelets. Gp advised retake blood tests in 4 weeks. The lump is bigger than a pea but not grape size and hard doesnt move and is deffinately not a swollen gland. Its not painfull. Im not ill generally fit and well but a little overweight. Ive had an audible wheeze for a couple of weeks and sore throat maybe abit tired although i do have 2 children 1 im sure is the devil recarnated :D and 1 asd, so this could be why im tired. Im petrified something sinister is going on and my gp thinks im a paranoid patient talking to me like im irrational at having to wait four weeks for a blood test then further waiting for an ultrasound.

Can you guys tell me what your first symptoms were and the pathway to diagnoses or all clear.

Im not sure to just ride it out and wait or insist on faster test/ultrasound.

thanks for reading and hope you all are well

  • [@Beth21]‍ I see. But thrombosis usually presents with different symptoms such as swelling, pain, tenderness in your leg, definitely not swollen lymph nodes,.,

maybe your dizziness and feeling tired are related to anxiety. Try not to worry to much.

i know it is easier said than done. But if you are still unsure what's going on with you just go to your GP again,

  • Its essential thrombosis, which is a type of blood cancer. The bone marrow produces to many plateletts.

  • @beth21 oh I see. I have never heard of that type of cancer. Sorry to hear that....

so there is no treatment for that?

  • Its treated with oral chemotherapy, which reduces plateletts. In extreme cases a full blood exchange is needed. Its a cancer that you can live with for the rest of your life. It can sometimes lead to lymphoma, heart attack due to thickening blood, and dvt. I had never heard of it untill i saw the haematologist.

  • Hi guys, [@justzbiku]‍  just wanted to update you.
I know its been a while but life has been busy with a ever growing independant toddler and a now 12 year old ASD boy.
so still no official diagnosis but have been treated as having essential thrombosis, with clopidogrel (alternative to asprin) i had an allergic reaction to asprin. Nothing had really changed still feel very tired, headaches and a new symptom of needing to clear my throat, swallow very hard , my ear feeling like its got water in. A week ago i have found another "lump" feels like a hard mass/node attached to my jaw bone halfway along my left jaw bone, slightly under my chin. I dont feel ill with any viral bacterial infection so worried, to say the least. I will leave it untill 2 week mark to see if it goes down then go through the rigmarole with gps and inform my haematologist again. I have no idea what it could be and keeping well away from google. Trying not to go through the whole "how long" its been there. Hope your all well and coping in the scary world we live in today.

  • Hi Beth,

How are you? Can I ask if you ever got your node checked out that you say was hard and fixed to your jaw?

i have exactly the same, I've been checked by ENT who say my nodes are reactive but I can't shake this feeling something is wrong with the nodes being hard and fixed

    thank you

  • Hi,

i had an ultrasound on the orignal node, but they said it was fine . I obviously wasnt aware of this second lump so that was never checked. However this feels slighly different to a node. Its more oblong and very firm i cant squeeze it. The area around it feels heavier than the other side. I dont know if thats my imagination tho. When i press on it i can swallow more easily aswell. I have looked online at where the nodes are located and doesnt seem to perfectly match the submandibular. Its more jaw bone location. My left ear feels like im on an airplane if that makes sense.

i havnt saw ent. Because my bloods showed the high platelets i was refered to heamatology but they dont seem at all bothered. I wanted a bone marrow to be 100% certain of diagnosis and they refused so im left in limbo not knowing whats causing the high platelets x

  • [@Farah1]‍  sorry i wasnt very clear. The first node was in my neck, which was in normal location for a node, i had just never felt it. The one on my jaw is the new one. I havnt even saw the gp yet. I was going to wait to see if it goes down. I think they have enough on their plates at the minute with a worry wart like me lol. If you dont mind can you explain where yours was and what it felt like please. I am not 100% convinced this is a node but i cant imagine what else it could be. I cleanse tone misturise daily, i was orignaly a hair and beauty tutor before teaching SEND so i have quite abit of knowledge if how the bodys made up and the lymphatic system but i just cant place it to what i know. Once i get to the 2 week mark i will ring the GP and see what they say, but i just dont want to waste their time if its something of nothing. But at the same time something is nagging me that its not quite right.

  • Hi Beth,

    thanks for your reply.

So I have three large nodes, one is in my neck, moveable and feels rubbery, I have had this for around 8 years but last year I had a small node swell up inside my jaw, this feels hard and fixed and is attached to my inside jaw, around 4 months ago I had another mass appear on the same side of my jaw which again feels hard and fixed.
I have had two ultrasounds which have come back as showing nothing suspicious just reactive nodes but I'm really concerned as the two nodes along my jaw are hard and fixed. Even though they are large they are still around 1cm. They are quite deep inside my jaw so I'm worried they may have been missed on the ultrasounds.

generally I feel well apart from fatigue and my bloods have come back fine.

can I ask what your lump feels like please?

i struggle to switch my worry off about my lymph nodes so have decided once covid has calmed down I will go private and hopefully have a biopsy once and for all.

    X

  • Hi [@Farah1]‍

mine is located on the side of my face, half way between my ear and my chin but its kind of on the underside and the side of my face, i can feel 1 edge on on face and 1 edge under my chin. Its easily 2 finger widths wide. It feels like a smooth stone/pebble under my skin. Not round but no sharp edges. Infact ive just felt it to describe it to you and im sure its got bigger. Im starting to get a little morr worrief now. Im catching myself falling asleep more often. If i sit down for 5 minutes throughout the day and even in the bath. I keep having times when i feel like i have a temperature than 5 minutes later it passes. I know my symptoms are sounding more like something sinister is going on, but then i question if they are really there or if i am imagining them lol.

I have decided to wait untill friday and if no reduction or has got bigger i will be ringing for an urgent appointment. Im also going to ring haematology to see if they can get me in any quicker for a scan or something.

How are you feeling? Going private sounds good, no waits, honest answers and quick results

    X
