Suspicious mole on back with swollen lymph node

Hello,,I have a history of mailgnant melanoma ,,went into remission 3 years ago ,,I have discovered another unusual mole again on my back and gp sent urgent referral to hospital,,saw Dr there who can't say if new mole is benign or malignant ,,they checked my lymph node under the arms etc and found one enlarged under my right arm pit,,so an urgent referral to ultrasound ,,,please help ?,,getting worried,,has anyone else had this ,,and if the melanoma has come back ,,what are the treatments ,,seeking reassurance and am scared xx

  • Hi Angie thanks for your info ,,my consultant seems to feel everything is connected to the first melanoma and that the 3 swollen lymphoid tissue nodes warrants investigation as they are too big ,,wants to check the structures,,I'm puzzled as everything I've read says malignancy or infection which i have neither  ,would make them swell ,,,and after the first malignant melanoma ,,,the 5 years after I ended up with abnormal cervical smear cin 3 ending up in a total hysterectomy ,,,a goitre which had grown into my oesaphagus , ,gastritis, hiatus hernia and pernicious anaemia,,plus a lot of dysplasia nevi which they kept taking off and testing ,,this new mole just removed was fast growing and was very unusual in colour ,,shape etc so im really worried as it obvious something is going on ,,its just finding out what so that I can be treated appropriately. Xxxx

  • That really is unusual. I know that someone having a cancer diagnosis has more chance of having a second cancer diagnosis but if this happens to melanoma patients it tends mainly to be breast cancer. I also know several who have developed thyroid problems. People with dysplastic nevi do usually have a lot of them (by brother, niece & nephew have had many removed). I wonder if, due to the wide range of your health problems, it's a problem with your immune system? At least you may get a definitive answer to all this from the full body scan or any tests that it might engender. xx

  • Hi Angie just to update  ,,I have been appointed a skin cancer nurse specialist ,,have to have ct scan with contrast and blood tests,,,and am still waiting for biopsy results of mole removal ,,my consultant said if these come back clear then the next step will be to remove one of the enlarged lymph nodes for testing ,,they are still very enlarged and haven't gone down , ,why would I be appointed a skin cancer nurse specialist if the results aren't back yet ? .

  • I'm guessing it might be because of your previous melanoma history. They may be erring on the side of caution and having a SCN in place now in case the results are positive. This means you have an immediate point of contact already in case you need to contact them. They are great at sorting things out (problems with appointments, excess wait for results etc) and are much easier to get hold of than a consultant or their secretary. xx

  • Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping on here, but Google lead me to this thread and I've seen your responses on several posts. I have exactly the same as the original poster and had a suspicious mole removed on my lower right side of my back last week. The surgeon felt for lumps in my groin and armpit, and discovered a lump in the right armpit, which I was aware of. I have also found what feels like a lump in the right breast (lost my sister to breast cancer 4 years ago). Is this standard procedure to look for lumps? I have received a referral to the breast unit in around a week's time for a mammogram and an ultrasound. I've been getting a burning sensation in my right breast suddenly too.
I suppose I'm looking for reassurance, and an update on the original poster's outcome.

    Thanks for any advice
