breast lump and continuous nipple discharge

so I went to the doctors three weeks ago with discharge coming out the very top of my nipple, when I first noticed it it had came out without any encouragement I was just getting changed and noticed liquid then squeezed it and and it came out more, the doctor also found a small lump next to my nipple but told me she wasn’t to concerned and to ‘keep an eye on it’! Three weeks later the lump is still there and discharge is still there so I went back to the doctors yesterday, the doctor had to get someone else in cause she was concerned and didn’t know what to do, when the other doctor came in she described the lump as pea size which worry’s me as cancerous lumps I always hear are described as pea sized, the other doctor decided he need to have a look, the colour of the discharge ruled out infection and I have no temperature, I’ve came off the pill and back on it a week later since having this fluid and lump so they’ve ruled out it being hormonal, the doctor that was brought in asked us to sit down and said they’re gonna refer me for a ultra sound! They asked me about family history of breast cancer etc in the family which frightened me a little, I sometimes get pain in my breast an achy pain that’s sharp and last for a while but it’s not constant, I wasn’t worried until I went back to the doctors! Can anyone help or has anyone had a similar situation that’s been nothing, just need to put my mind at ease?? X

  • Hi daisy

I notice no one has replied so wanted to drop in and say there are of ladies on here that have had the same and it came back as nothing. Hopefully some of them will see this and respond. Try not to worry, I know it’s hard but try and keep yourself busy until your ultrasound and remember it’s not cancer until they say its cancer.

  • Hello Daisy!

Welcome to the forum. I understand how worried you are right now,it’s perfectly normal but you’ve come to the right place, everyone here is so kind and helpful.

You don’t give your age but I notice you said you’ve been referred for an ultrasound. Normally over 40’s have mammograms. Where I live in Wales,it’s routine for all patients who go to their gp’s with breast issues to be referred to breast clinic and that will be within 2 weeks,so please don’t worry there.  It’s also routine for them to ask your family history. When I attended the breast clinic I was given a questionnaire with regards to family history,if I was taking conraception or not and general health questions.

Try to keep yourself busy until you have your appointment. Do you have any hobbies or interests? I even found cleaning my house from top to bottom was good in passing the time. The best piece of advice I can offer you is to stay off google! Looking on google can turn an already stressful time a lot worse! If you feel like you need a chat,or are worried or just need to vent, then come to the forum! It’s been a lifesaver for me the past few weeks! Also try to keep in mind that 8 out of 10 lumps are benign.

I hope this has helped you. I have no doubt that some of the other breast ladies will come along shortly and say hi.

    Take care

    Marie xxxx
