1cm lump to left lower inner breast

Hi,

yesterday i found a hard 1cm lump to the lower inner left breast! I’ve been to the doctors today and have been referred to the breast clinic on the 2 week wait! He said the positive is that it’s slightly movable and smooth to touch! Although it is painless and I’ve read that if it’s a cyst it’s usually painful!

Anyway ive obviously convinced myself of the worst case scenario... I have a 2 year old little boy so all my emotions are everywhere! Any experiences similar to mine would be welcomed as im going out of my mind here! Just preying for the best, I’m only 27 and really didn’t expect to find something like this so young!

thank you in advance!

  • Thank you. Honestly it was the worse month of my life and you think the worse but please try not to. They are good and can tell just by looking at the lumps. I pray the best outcome for you.

  • I'm going through the same just now, I'm 35 with 2 kids, my mum died of breast cancer age 44 so family history, last week I found a hard lump quite deep into my lower left breast, seen my gp yesterday and have been referred to breast clinic, my anxiety is through the roof already so I feel your worries, good luck x

  • Hi

Totally understand the worry but please don't. The moveability etc is great and Dr's are well used to not so great things. It might not be a cyst either, fibrodemas are very common - I had three in one breast and no idea until they were seen on a scan.

It might not help but I am 38 and have been on a 2 week referal about 5 times now. My dr described my breasts as being so lumpy they are like bags of peas! Not once has it been anything awful or which requires further action.

Impossible I know but try the relax and snuggle your little one for all that lovely oxytocin. In 2 weeks you'll be seen, everything they can will be done in one day and you'll be home and fine I am sure.
    Take care x

  • Hi, so glad I found this post!

I'm 32 and I  found a lump (about 8mm) in my right, upper inner breast at the start of the week. The skin above the lump is slightly discoloured, which is what drew my attention to it. I'm not in any pain because of the lump. I finally plucked up the courage to call my GP on Thursday.

She checked both breasts and agreed she could feel a definite lump. Because there's a slightly open pore near where the lump is and because of my age, she was wondered whether it was possibly due to an infection. She has given me a weeks course of antibiotics and made an appointment for me to see her again on the 22nd.

I'm not so sure about infection as there's no redness, pain etc. There's been no change to the lump since I began the antibiotics. Will I likely be referred for ultrasound etc at my next appointment if the lump is still the same?

  • Hi there,

urgh - this sucks, I'm sorry you are going through it.

I don't know about whether a referral is likely, but if there is no change after the antibiotics probably, as GPs (as amazing as some of them are) can't know everything - especially the stuff they can't see.

I think it's a really good sign they weren't too worried and wanted you to try the antibiotics first though. They must see a lot of this kind of thing and will be well versed to the seriously worrying things.

Sadly I suffered from 10 weeks of recurrent mastitis just after I had my daughter, and I can say with certainty that infection can change the colour of your breast and in certain areas. It can last a while after the infection has passed too.

it's really really hard to keep calm and not catatastrophise I know - but I think things seem encouraging from the GP response. And remember, if you do get referred it IS NOT because they think you have cancer, it's more likely you don't and they just want to find out what it is. You've done the best thing and sought help quickly, despite that in itself being incredibly hard to do.

while on the antibiotics yet yourself some bio-kult and try Yakult too - last thing you need on top of this is blooming thrush!!

here if you need anything and take care x
