Hi there, I hope I'm not bothering anyone or posting in the wrong place - if so please do let me know
For the past 5 weeks I've had a swollen tonsil that's grown larger, and the back of my mouth is red and inflamed. I then developed a persistent cough that's now been there for 4 weeks and comes in bouts of around 30s-1min and I have a feeling of a lump in my throat
I saw my GP after the first week, and he prescribed me a week of antibiotics that did nothing at all
I saw him again in the 3rd week and he sent me off for blood tests and a chest x-ray i go back to him this Wednesday (10/04/19)
I didn't notice it before but I see what looks like a lump or red cyst on the front of my swollen tonsil, and theres this like mucocele blister thats come and gone in the exact same spot 3 times and now theres a very very small one on my tongue
I'm only 18; I never drink; I've only smoked tobacco once in my life more than a year ago and didn't even do it very well
I'm worried I might have HPV related oral cancer and I'm so scared; I can't sleep and I can't focus even though my A-Levels are in less than 6 weeks
I know I shouldn't look for a diagnosis here, but I guess I'm hoping for reassurance or something
I'm just asking - how do I get my GP to take me seriously when I tell him about my worries? I don't want to be dismissed as paranoid because of how statistically unlikely it is for someone my age to get it
Does anyone have any experience in how to get an urgent referral? I don't have the money myself to book a private consultant and I haven't told my family my concern
Anyone with tonsil cancer able to tell me what their symptoms were like or what the process for diagnosis is?
Thank you so much
