Hard Breasts

Hi so I recently turned 15 and at the top of both of my breasts is an area of very hard tissue. I am obviously concerned as I am not sure how normal this is/if it is something more serious. It is is both breasts but doesn’t feel like a muscle so I was just wondering what it is. Many thanks :)

    Hi ,

A very warm welcome to our community. I am so sorry to hear about the hard tissue at the top of both breasts. At your age, it is unlikely that this is something untoward, but sadly not impossible. The only way to be sure that all is ok is to have further investigation and, the place to start this is with your GP.  Have you mentioned this to your mum? I'm sure that she will be a great support to you if you have to undergo tests.

Please make an appointment with your GP as soon as possible, if only to rule out anything untoward. If you mention the reason for wanting an early appointment to the receptionist, I'm sure that she will try to fit you in as soon as possible.

There are many reasons for lumps in breasts and, only 1 person in 10 referred to breast clinics turns out to have beast cancer.

Do please let us know how you get on and, remember that we are always here for you.

I sincerely hope that you don't find anything serious, but you need to be sure.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there! Thank you so much for replying, I have mentioned it to my mum once or twice before but didn’t go into detail. She is a mamographer and said that I was fine but all I said was that I hard very hard boobs. It does not feel like as lump as it is basically the entire top of half of both of my breasts. I thought that dense breasts were the entire breast, not just an area? I am worried sick despite my mum’s reassurance.

    Hi Anonymous,

Has your mum examined your breasts? This could be a case of 'the shoemaker's weans being the worst shod'. Perhaps, you might feel better if you saw your GP for reassurance. No doubt, it will be a case of 'mum knows best', but there's no harm in checking.

I hope that it all turns out well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I mentioned it to my mum again today and I said how hard my boobs were. I also mentioned that the top half was harder than the bottom half, she still kept saying that this was completely normal for a teenager and that I am fine. I guess I’ll just follow her knowledge as she knows best. (She did not examine me however). The only thing that I think it might be is Fibrocystic breasts but apart from that I’m not going to panic. Thank you once again for replying and for being so welcoming x

    Hi Anonymous,

Your mum should know better than anyone if there is anything amiss. However, if your breasts change in any way or give you cause for any further concern, please ask her to examine your breasts visually.

I hope that everything remains normal.

    Kind regards,
