12 week wait for symptomatic breast clinic

Hi all, 
I found a large marble size lump over a week ago, attended my GP on the day who made the referral while I was with her. She said she placed it as an urgent referral and since then I have being going slightly crazy with worry. I can’t concentrate on work or anything really ... I havnt told any family as I don’t want to worry them. Attended the GP again yesterday as the anxiety is overbearing I havnt been sleeping which I think is adding to my slight craziness. So GP contacted the clinic to no avail and this morning I received a letter saying I will be called within 12 weeks
I’m at a loss and have no idea what to do .... I was hoping 2 weeks and due to my age I was thinking maybe within 6 at most. A 3 month wait just seems unbearable has anyone else had this experience or paid to go to a private appointment .... I can ask friends and family for some money but not hundreds

    Hello Triona,

    I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your appointment at the breast clinic. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you to have to wait as long as 12 weeks. Hopefully you will be seen by someone before that. 

    I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. 

    I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you. 

    Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Hi urgent referral should be two weeks max see if doctor can get you in any wear else sooner doctor should chase them up. Good luck.

    I have the same issue I have a long list of close family members with breast cancer history including my mum who passed away from it 4 years ago and her mum who passed from it too  I went to my GP 8 weeks ago and I’m still waiting to hear I phoned the breast clinic today directly and they told me the referrals are vetted by a consultant and he has reduced my urgency I’m also pregnant and due my second child in less than 4 weeks so thought with all of the above I’d of been seen sooner the lady I spoke to said there’s nothing that can be done to get appointment sooner as it would go to consultant again it’s stressing me right out at a time where I feel I should be happy and excited I really hope you don’t have to wait as long as iv been waiting as I understand the worry
