2 year lump

I have a lump on the right side of my neck I've had it for two years. I went last year for blood tests because they thought I had an underactive thyroid.. I didn't. I haven't been back since until today because to be honest it hasnt been bothering me but over the last few weeks I have been having increasing difficulty swallowing, night sweats and I'm always tired. It doesn't appear to have got any bigger and you cant see it without feeling it. I've got to go for bloods first thing in the morning but the GP today has told me she thinks its 'blood cancer'.

I'm petrified. Shes sending me for an urgent ultrasound that's all I know so far. I thought it would be good to post on here to see if anyone else has been through similar?

  • Hi, I’m surprised your GP didn’t sent you to an ENT specialist, if your doctor thinks it’s a blood cancer they are usually the first port of call, he would check your throat with a small camera, he would then decide if an ultrasound with biopsy was required. If the result was positive you would then be referred to a haematologist. Your doctor is probably thinking it could be lymphoma but the only way to detect this is with a biopsy. Maybe he wants to rule out a few things with the ultrasound. At least your doctor is doing something positive,  but I’m surprised he said about the blood cancer without results in front of him. I’m not a doctor but I’ve got lymphoma and this was the route my GP went down. My symptoms were night sweats, fatigue, lost a lot of weight and had some breathing problems, itchy skin.  Try not to worry, it’s a difficult time when a doctor tells you this, but it may be nothing. Fingers crossed for you, let us know how it goes.
