  • I'm sorry you feel like this! I can sympathise as I too have been experiencing excruciating periods like pains, both in my lower back and lower tummy! I get the odd sharp twinge under my breast on my ribs at night. I went to the doctors Tuesday, worrying this could be a bowl cancer and she said it was unlikely because I'm 30, sent me for blood tests and a stool sample was sent off. Blood tests have come back all clear and still waiting on the stool sample as they take abit longer. I'm just wanting an answer for the pain and discomfort. I dont have periods and haven't done for 8 years as I have the contraceptive injection so I know it's not that. I've had gall stones and my gall bladder removed 9 years ago, but tbh the pain is completely different from that anyway. I hope you manage to get some answers. I'm hoping my doctor will send me for a colonoscopy, but she said on Tuesday I dont yet for the criteria for a referral, but if I was 60 I would that's the only way really to rule cancer out.

  • Hi don't know if you ever got this sorted but please don't let them fob you off for a colonoscopy by saying your too young. I have lynch syndrome and we very much can and do get cancer in our 20s, 30s any age really. Were at an 80% risk! My dad was only 36 but luckily after being fobbed off for 2 years they caught it and he fought it. Stephen Sutton was only 18. Load of crap to say they won't even test for it because your too young.

  • Thank you hun! Ive actually got an appointment with the doctor and going back again tomorrow. Since January I have bern having the same symptoms with no relief from various 'treatments' they've suggested. I am now convinced it must be something in the bowel that will only be found via a colonoscopy which I'm going to insist on having. I've taken many photos these past 2 weeks of my stools, I have this year alone sent off 3 stool sample all have apparently been tested and no blood found, I can tell you for absolute certainty there is and I've said this to the doctors! Theres no mistaking it and it cant be missed as theres alot. I'm convinced there either not testing them as dont think theres anything or not actually looking for blood. I have lower back pain all the time varying serverity along with period like pain (I dont have periods so definitely not that) I constantly feel the need to 'go' almost like a constipation feeling, but I'm not constipated. Hopefully I will get somewhere tomorrow. I'm so worried as I've felt quiet unwell these last 2 weeks and also had a pain like a trapped nerve in my neck going down my arm which came out of no where and my mind jumped on evening thinking 'oh my life, what if I do have cancer, what if its spread, what if this is a swollen lymph node pressing on my nerve' I'll be so mad with myself if it is and I didnt push in the beginning. I feel like I'm being such a hypercondriact and jumping to conclusions and worrying but in my gut I just know something isnt right. I was told at 19 I was 'too young' to have gall stones, a year later I was having my gall bladder removed due to constant attacks and after my surgeon said he'd never seen gall stones the size of mine before. I was diagnosed at 13 with sciatica another thing the doctors thought I was 'too young for' but after a boy pulled a chair from under me and i fell flat on my bum it sent it into spazem causing the sciatica. I know them things are different and it doesn't mean I have cancer but I also know theres exceptions to the rule and with anything these days your never too young! Xx

  • I'm sorry your still having to fight for this. I would 100% push for a colonoscopy just to rule it out. Also it may be worth looking into Sibo (small intestinal Bacterial overgrowth) as this is quite common to. Fingers crossed you get it sorted and refuse to leave until they send you for one. X

  • Thanks hun! I have a fissure so they are just saying its probably just that that's causing any bleeding but it dont explain the abdominal and back pain and change in bowel routine so they're just ignoring them. The pictures I have are pretty gruesome so I'm hoping if she sees what it looks like she might listen to my other symptoms and find it appropriate to send me for one. I just need to know now. I will post back any updates x

  • Thanks everyone for taking the time reply..

So far on my journey i was at the ultra sound department in the summer time who ruled out gallstones only took them 3 years.

Since then also i still have flare ups but can control it better as i have noticed if i eat fatty meats or spicy sauses and also take away chips which im guessing is the grease so if i avoid these i dont have flare ups.

Can you explain your gallbladder journey for please and what happens and your recovery afterwards.

Very scared to have this done as i have ready horror storys about weight gain and still haveing flareups after its removed.

It a horrible thing to experiance so i totally understand you and your frustrations if i have any advise keep at them its your body!! They wont come looking for you!!

  • I was 19 and heavily Pregnant when I had my very first attack, the pain was right under my right breast, round to my back and up my shoulder blade, I remember when it very first started to come on I'd always undo my bra feeling constricted but as it intensified it was just and unbearable stabbing/sharp/constricting pain, it would make me violently sick to the point I would be coughing up blood as I'd ripped my stomach lining, I tried all sorts with my diet and nothing would stop it, from the very beginning I'd have attacks at least 3 times a week my longest one was 3 days long, came on when I was in the aqua sauna at center parcs. Towards the end the attacks were every day and I was constantly in and out of hospital but literally nothing else, I couldn't go anywhere for the fear of an attack starting and just being debilitated. Id fell pregnant with my second child after my contraceptive failed due to either medication or just being sick all the time and had to wait till my second trimester to have the gall bladder and stones removed. I was that bad that on the day I fell into it they did the operation, I had it via key hole, and despite them filling me with worry about my unborn baby he was also fine and is a happy bouncy 10 year old now. The operation was fine, abit of discomfort, bruising like feeling, what you'd expect really, but nothing in comparison to a gall stone attack. I was out of hospital after 3 days, and they only kept me there that long as I was pregnant and then rested about a week more at home but then was back doing normal things after that. I have suffered with diarrhoea with a churny stomach just before I go since but again was nothing in comparison to a gall stone attack! I think it was the diarrhoea that caused my fissure from what I can gather but that was years ago but since January my toilet habits, stools, the blood and the churning have all changed to what is worrying me now. Oh and as far as weight gain goes, I've always been a big girl so cant blame having my gall bladder out on that, but what I can say is that since having it out being able to loose weight is near on impossible and speaking to a doctor in the past about it he said there does seem to be some connection with it. Hope you get sorted with it all xx

  • Hi, I just came across your reply whilst googling my symptoms... I'm 19 and recently been having the EXACT same thing. It started of as chest pain and went all down my back round my shoulders and recently has spread to the lower part of my back and having period like pains but I'm on the implant so don't get periods. When I lie down I get a shark stab like pain under my rib near my chest, what was the outcome of this? I hope your account is still active as I'm very worried! Trying to get a doctors appointment. I'm really scared. Thanks xx

  • Hi, I've been having investigations since January for abdominal and pelvic pain on the right side. I've had blood tests, stool tests, urine tests, an abdominal ultrasound, a transvaginal ultrasound, and currently waiting for a cystoscopy. The urologist says it's unlikely they'll find anything if the ultrasounds were clear. My doctor has suggested stress from the very beginning and has recently said it could be just "one of those unexplained things". I hadn't thought about asking for a colonoscopy as I assumed anything would be found on ultrasounds!
