Repeat biopsy

Recently had my first mammogram and was recalled because they wanted to conduct further tests.  I was told the mammogram indicated a suspected benign fibroadenoma approx 1".

I had an MRI scan and biopsy to confirm this however having returned for the biopsy results I have been told the sample showed normal tissue.

I have now been asked to attend tomorrow for a further biopsy as this isn't the result they expected.

Has anyone else been recalled for a 2nd biopsy?

I wish I'd not bothered with the mammogram in the first place as I now don't trust the result.

    Hi Afox,

Unfortunately, it is not that unusual to have to have a second biopsy. There are a number of different reasons for this and not all of them are bad news. Sometimes things are just not as clear as your care team would like them to be and you may need another biopsy to clarify things. As Steph has suggested, you might find it helpful to discuss this with the nurses on this site.

Do you have a date for your next biopsy yet? I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
