Ovarian cancer

Good morning. I am at my wits end here.

I am 46 yrs old, and have been bleeding heavily and i mean flooding for the past 2 weeks. On saturday i got up and had the worst pain in my rh side ever, which continued to come and go and still is. Its like a burning sensation . I went to my gp yesterday she did urine and preg test both neg. She wanted to do an internal but the blood is just too much. So she is sending me for a ca125 test, as i have a family history of cancer.of the womb. She said its pointing to two things,  either a ovarian cyst thats rupturing or overian cancer. She have me mefenamic acid to help to slow the bleed amd has referred me to gyno at the hospital. I have put on a lot of weight around my tummy recently, but its the blood loss im not coping with at all. Help!

  • Hi Elli and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry about what you're having to contend with at the moment but I hope the mefenamic acid you've been prescribed has helped with the blood loss. If you feel it hasn't then do get back in touch with your doctor so they can try and find something that will be more effective for you.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in similar situations will be along soon but in the meantime I thought I would share some information I have found about the ca125 blood test.

If you have any other questions or would like to chat with someone about what you're going through then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

Wishing you all the best for your appointment with the gynaecologist Elli.

    Kind regards,
