Head/Neck/Throat/Tonsil/Nasopharyngeal symptoms

Hi,

Does anyone have any advice regarding symptoms for head & neck cancers?

Long story short I’ve been experiencing chest pain and shoulder pain since last October. Additional symptoms since then as follows:

spitting blood (every day), left sided tingling/numbness in left leg, arm and left side of face, enlarged left tonsil, ear pain (left) on & off), tinniitis, shins hurting (both legs), weight loss (1 stone), night sweats (on & off for a week about 5 weeks ago), lumps and bumps in stomach.

I have had the following tests:

ct scan abdomen - normal

chest x Ray - normal

endoscopy - found bleeding angioectasia in stomach & localised thrush in oropharynx  - consultant not concerned

nasal scope - found bleeding ulcer in nasopharynx - sent for mri then told possible biopsy under GA

Mri throat - normal apart from mucousal thickening I’m sinuses

blood tests - normal

The follow up ent appointment, the consultant couldn’t find the ulcer (but I’m still spitting blood) and wasn’t worried about tonsil or any other symptoms. I felt as if I was palmed off with being overly anxious about my symptoms and don’t know where to go from here really. I know that I have lots of different symptoms and it’s reassuring tests are not finding anything too sinister but I’m not getting anywhere with any answers.

Is it possible the mri missed something?

The gastro consultant didn’t even biopsy the bleeding area in my stomach as he said I was “too young” for cancer (I’m 31)

im having a private consultation on Friday, I’m convinced that he will find the ulcer in the nasopharyngeal area. I just feel like I’ve been palmed off by everyone and I don’t know where to go from here!

Sorry for the rant x

  • I'm sorry that you haven't been able to get an explanation for the symptoms you've been experiencing but as you've said it's reassuring to see that most of the tests you've had so far have come back with good results.

I would have suggested seeing a different a doctor to get a second opinion but it seems you've beaten me to it by going private, so it sounds like you're doing what needs to be done to get the answers and peace of mind you are seeking.

I hope the consultation on Friday goes well and gets you a step closer to finding out what is going on.

    Kind regards,
