My Colonoscopy refused!!

Hi, could anyone be able to give any advice please I would really appreciate it.

I don’t no what to do I have had bowel problems for months (loose & changed bowel habits) also with large amounts of blood & mucus in stool with following stomach pain.

My gp has gave me multiple medication nothing seems to be improving. My GP referred me for a colonoscopy but the hospital basically told me no and to have a endoscopy but I have already had a endoscopy and they took biopsy’s of the lining of my small bowel (still waiting on biopsy results) so I just do not no why I need another.... unless biopsy’s missing. Also there is a 40 week waiting list! I feel like I cannot wait this long.

I am so stressed out with everything going on my symptoms are getting worse with loosing weight no appetite & all I get told is to go back to my gp but all they seem to be doing is giving me new medication!

Last time I went my gp they suspected a polyp and referred me for a colonoscopy so stressed as hospital refused this!! How & why! With my symptoms. What and where do I go with my situation?

  • I'm sorry about the situation you find yourself in at the moment Lola. I can't begin to imagine how frustrating this must be for you.

Hopefully some of our other members who have found themselves in a similar situation will reply soon to offer their advice and share their experiences with you but in the mean time do be sure to let your doctor know that your colonoscopy was refused (if they're not aware of this already). Also, if you feel like you're not getting anywhere with your current GP and have more than one at your surgery, you could always book in with a different doctor to get a second opinion.

Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to have a quick chat with them about this as well. They are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to get this sorted out soon Lola.

    All the best,
