Waiting for Biopsy Results

Hello there hope someone can give me some advice please.  I was rushed into hospital a few weeks ago with severe abdominal pain; a dodgy gallbladder was suspected, but while this was being investigated, nodules were also found on my lymph nodes in the stomach, chest and under the arm.  I had a biopsy and was told I would get results and a follow-up appointment in 2/3 weeks.  It has now been about 3.5 weeks since the biopsy and I am told my consultant has had no results as yet, so no follow-up appointment made to date.  Everyone is saying "no news is good news", but I don't know whether this is the case, or whether the lab is just snowed under.  The waiting is so stressful.  Is this normal please and is "no news really good news"?

  • Hello BevW62,

I can understand the wait can be stressful, but all you can do is keep chasing your consultant I'm afraid. Please try not to worry and overthink things as that only brings negative thoughts. Here are some tips, which I hope will help you cope with the wait.

I hope you get the results soon,

  • Hello, sorry I just posted a similar thread . It’s so worrying and one particular friend off mine is saying I am a hypochondriac and everything will be fine . I hope she’s right but the wait is awful! To make matters worse I have read that people have had bad news after several weeks of waiting . I am too scared to ring the consultant’s Secretary to find out the results, pathetic I know

  • Hi Murray totally understand how you feel - the wait seems interminable!  I got my results yesterday after 5 weeks wait - I was beginning to think they had lost my biopsy.  Sadly I have been told they have found abnormal cells and an appointment has been made to see a haematologist next week.  Good luck to you; I hope you get your results shortly and its good news.

  • Oh no , please try not to worry too much it may just been cell changes ! I suppose there’s many people walking around with problems who don’t go and get them checked . It’s funny that the pelvic pain I presented with has now virtually disappeared!

I read a post the other day somewhere who said they woke up to a normal day but things were never going to be normal again . I can relate to this however, the disease was already there and it was the diagnosis which had changed their day . Looking on the bright side is that it’s good  to get it sorted sooner rather than later however scary it is.

  • I'm glad to find this thread, I was starting to lose my mind thinking that I was having long delays for seemingly no reason! I've been waiting over 3 weeks now for a biopsy result from a lymph node on my neck, and the lab has just said that it could be another 1.5 weeks until the result is back unfortunately. It does seem to be because of a backlog rather than any other reason.

I know that I probably won't be arranged to see my Consultant until up to a week after then, though, so it feels like 5 weeks in limbo is particularly long! Due to the result of a fine needle biopsy, my symptoms and the advice of my Consultant, I'm preparing for the worst - that it is lymphoma - but I just want to crack on with whatever treatment I'll have to have. Hey ho, I guess the waiting game continues...
