HPV concerns

hi I am 34 and 5 years ago living in NZ I had a smear which showed up high risk hpv and LSIL on smear, up until this point I had never heard of hpv before.  As I was moving home I had a biopsy done at home and was told yearly smears were only required.  I had read an articles last year on hpv and it started making me worry so had another smear that came back stating no abnormalities and I could go back to three yearly smears.  After seeing another article in the news tonight about hpv it got me thinking again and although I had a cervical smear test last year would this have tested for the hpv? I am now stressing

thanks

  • Hello Lcd15,

I can understand why you are feeling worried after your smear 5 years ago showed up high risk HPV but I think you can be reassured by the fact that your most recent smear showed no abnormalities. I think given how confused this is all making you feel, it might be a good idea to ring up your GP from the surgery where the latest smear test was carried out. Do explain your history to them and you can also ask them to confirm whether the latest smear test that was done last year did specifically test for the HPV. I am sure they will be able to clarify this for you once and for all and hopefully put your mind at rest.

    Best wishes,
