Lump on neck

Hi everyone,

Roughly two weeks ago I discovered a lump around the size of a golf ball (an irregular shape) on my gland, on the side of my neck (just above my collarbone). I went to the doctors and she said it was most likely a swollen gland, to give it two weeks and only go back if it’s hasnt reduced in size (sounded like something that happens often and isn’t anything to worry about). Two weeks later and it hasn’t reduced in size and it’s quite tender so I went back and it’s an urgent referral to hospital. It’s just shocked me a bit as I got the impression at first it wasn’t anything to worry about. Does anyone know what I should be expecting at hospital visit? Or what it could possibly be?

  • Hello,

Nope! doctor didnt even look or feel it. He just said 'I won't look at it' so yes I reported it. I askef a doctor in A&E and he said he didnt think it was a lymph node, but that i shouldnt be worried if it isnt painful or growing excessivelu, but when ive researched where lymph nodes are its in the exact same place? and it says if its been there for a while that it needs to be looked into? its so confusing.

and over the past year I've had fatigue, and heart arrhythmia, and in April I was told I have stomach issues now too. They've asked me to have an abdominal CT (I have been regurgitating food for no reason sometimes) but I had a chest x ray and it was apparently perfectly fine, so surely if it had progressed from my Jaw it would have shown on chest x ray. doctor said my shortness of breath was Asthma and I now take medication for that, but they never did any tests for it, although in my records it says I was given a peak flow at age 10 with a low reading, which my mother never told me. Recently I've started sweating again when literally doing barely anything, and I've had fevers a few times but with no obvious cause? (my blood tests are completely normal throughout this, they ruled out leukaemia etc)

  • How are u doing now? My 15 year old son is being diagnosed . Dr are 90 percent sure it's hodgkins

  • Sorry to hear this. I personally think it's harder for a parent to watch their child go through it, than to actually be the child going through it.
I am great thank you. All of my treatment was successful and I'm 3.5 into remission. I have a couple of long term side effects due to my treatment (not anything serious just little things like Raynauds) but generally very healthy. I was given the option to opt out of check ups after 3 years clear instead of the usual 5 which I have done so I don't even have checks ups anymore

  • That's great to know. What makes it more difficult that my son is severely autistic and like an 18 month old baby mentally. Did u have radiotherapy as well?
